Sanook Thai Caption: Birthday party begging teams

Sanook reported that Thai social media was mostly outraged by pictures of their compatriots enjoying themselves at a private party. A clip got out.

This was not any old party.

The theme was "Beggars" and partygoers had gone dressed up as beggars, poor people and blind singing beggars.

Netizens felt it was in bad taste looking down on the poor and handicapped of the kingdom.

Apologies were demanded.

Sanook went to find the party organiser at a restaurant on the Ban Bung to Klaeng Road in Chonburi, central Thailand.

Juthathip, 35, explained that the party happened in an estate nearby on November 19th.

She and her friends always get together to celebrate birthdays and they always have dress up themes to spice things up a bit.

This time it was "Beggars".

Questioned as to the appropriateness of all this she said that she was sorry if offence was caused, but it was a private party just for fun and no disrespect to anyone was intended.

This was backed up by Pornchai who was filmed as a beggar in the clip who said no offence was intended.

But he also offered an apology.

defamation charges should be better..... Private party, what are people talking about. First see how to act.. Ever heard on TV how they speak if they imitate a foreigner??? Or how they act as if they have a mental illness in some shows?? Clean your own mess first before commenting on others

Absolutely, bad taste...   stupid, insensitive, mocking the poor etc...

But really.... Apologies demanded... By whom to whom ????....       netizens getting too woke for their own good...

Nice to see an real update to 21st century BS with the use of the non-apology - you know, the one that starts "I'm sorry IF...." that means you're not sorry at all. A great move forward after the so 1990s epthet 'netizens' which just sounds straight out of Compuserve or AOL.

We had  a 'come as a Thai' party... everyone crashed their cars into the power poles in front of the house!

Yes, but you had to get drunk BEFORE you drove to the party in order to make it realistic.....

I have a message for the poor irate, snowflake brigade they call netizens......why not get off your ar**s and do more for the poor and handicapped of your Country. Such as lobbying the Government, both local and in the cities, to provide proper wheelchair access to building, decent footpaths, more organisations to help the poor and needy, particularly the mentally handicapped who are often left alone to roam the street.

Look to your own back yard before condemning others.

Thai social media is outraged?

Nothing better to do all day but look at what everyone else is doing.

Netizens, schmetizens. Social media can build you up. But the way it is used today can also tear you down. This is especially relevant for the youth, most of whom do not have much self esteem to begin with.

I consider social media to be the most destructive force in contemporary culture today. Children are growing up now in a world where they expect immediate response, gratification and notification. Their brains no longer have time to evolve; they must adapt to change in an instant, and the results are distressing. The difficulties of growing up have never been so public. Social technology provides a platform where things can run wild. Imagine the stress of high school – the competition for popularity, the pressure to fit in, the judgmental nature of social activities – at an accelerated pace. We try to protect our children from wandering off into the darkness on their own, and it turns out they are doing exactly that – online. When they get older and “ready,” we send them off to college, where they face more pressures. But social media has an infamous dark side and the more people share, the more serious this side becomes. As it turns out, living your life online has serious consequences for your self-esteem, your relationships, and your career prospects.

Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter addiction is real and it is dangerous. Not only does it prevent you from living in the present, it can also leave you with crippling anxiety and insecurities. But few people talk about the real danger of social media addictions. These addictions make you boring. Nobody wants to hear about what he said on Facebook, what she said on Instagram or what you said on Twitter. If they wanted to know, they would have already seen it, liked it, and moved on.

At every fancy dress that I went to in my home country, there was always someone dressed as a tramp.

There was also at least one guest dressed as a clown, should we apologise to Ronald McDonald now?

Mind you, there were also a few 'black face' costumes back then. ????

The issue I have with these "news" stories is the fact that they are written in an attempt to generate clicks and get views to remain popular. The quote this group or that group as outraged, offended etc. When in fact it's just a "reporter" generationa story. Did they take a poll and find some larger area of the population commenting or did they talk to a spokesman for a group of people  or just generate the story to have something to report to get a paycheck. If that story was ne ER posted in the media how many people outside the party goers would have even known about it. It was a private party not a March thru the middle of BKK
