Football - The United States are through to the last 16 of Qatar 2022 after beating  Iran 1-0. Christian Pulisic scored the winner in the 38th minute. They will play the Netherlands who beat Qatar 2-0 in their final Group A game. England defeated Wales 3-0 in the other Group B match thanks to two goals by Marcus Rashford with Phil Foden scoring the other. They will face Senegal who reached the knockout stages for only the second time in their history as they beat Ecuador 2-1.

 

F1 - Mattia Binotto is to leave his position as Ferrari team principal at the end of the year.
A statement from Ferrari  said the 53-year-old had resigned from his role and that the process to identify a replacement was "underway".

 

Golf - Tiger Woods has joined Rory McIlroy in calling for Greg Norman to quit as boss of the breakaway LIV Golf Tour. Woods believes it is possible for the PGA Tour to negotiate a settlement with the Saudi Arabia-funded LIV Tour, but only if Norman steps aside. Earlier this month, McIlroy said that the Australian former world number one needed to "exit stage left".

 

Football - An all-female refereeing team will take charge of a men's World Cup game for the first time in Thursday's group-stage game between Costa Rica and Germany. Stephanie Frappart will be the first woman to referee at a men's World Cup.
