Football: In Group C last night in the Qatar World Cup 2022 Argentina completed the turnaround from the shock opening World Cup loss to Saudi Arabia by qualifying for the last 16 in impressive style by beating Poland 2-0, but the Poles also qualified as they went through on goal difference having finished level on points with Mexico. Saudi Arabia scored late in their game to knock out the Mexicans despite the Latin Americans winning  2-1.

 

In Group D France had a goal ruled out by VAR for offside in the final minute of stoppage-time as Tunisia held on to register a shock victory 1-0. However, despite the 1-0 victory they failed to qualify as Australia reached the knockout stage for the first time in 16 years after shocking Denmark 1-0.  Argentina will now  play Australia and France will take on Poland this Sunday 4th December.


Brazil legend Pele has been admitted to hospital but his daughter has confirmed there was "no emergency" involved.  Kely Nascimento posted on Instagram that there was "no new dire prediction". Pele had a tumour removed from his colon in September last year and has since had regular treatment at the hospital.

 

Golf - Valderrama, the host of the 1997 Ryder Cup, is among the new venues that will hold LIV Golf Series events in 2023. Mayakoba's El Camaleon in Mexico - a long-time PGA Tour venue - and regular European Tour host Sentosa in Singapore are the other new courses. The Valderrama event is scheduled for the first weekend in July, when The Belfry will stage the British Masters.
