Prime minister Prayut yesterday confirmed he is seeking to run the country for two more years after the next general election.


But didn’t specify which party he would contest in  the election. General Prayut came to power after staging a coup in 2014, The PM is likely to dissolve parliament next march which would trigger a general election within 60 days. 

 

A second explosion hit a railway line in Songkhla yesterday, killing 3 railway workers and injuring 4. The blast took place as seven railway workers and mechanics were collecting equipment to repair the track and salvage the 10 railways carriages derailed in the first bomb blast on Saturday..about 400 metres away. 

 

Bangkok’s local authority is seeking a change in the law to allow it to collect more tax revenue from tobacco and hotel bookings.


The BMA aims to collect some 80 billion baht in taxes this year.

 

Three local authorities have been selected to participate in an environmentally friendly sustainability project.


This follows a conference organized as a part of the "Smart Green Asean Cities project that was attended by representatives from the EU, the United Nations and eight Asean nations. 


The project is eventually expected to be rolled out to some 600 local authorities across the country.

 

The ministry of transport has been instructed by the prime minister's office to encourage more airlines to fly into Thailand. International tourism has seen a steady recovery with some 10 million visitor arrivals so far this year. Thailand's GDP is considered stable and is likely to see a 3.8 percentage growth next year up from 3.3 percent this year.

S Korea: A shipment of tanks and other weapons arrived in Poland yesterday after Soul responded to a call for more defensive weapons in a European Union deal worth 5,8 billion dollars. 

 

Korea will also supply  fighter jets, a light training and combat aircraft made jointly by Korea Aerospace and Lockheed Martin for some 3 billion dollars.

 

Australia and the United States have agreed to increase defense ties to counter what they call: China’s ‘dangerous and coercive actions’
The aim is to integrate US-Australian weapons manufacturing capabilities and invite Japan to join their  “force posture”
