Football - A dazzling performance from Lionel Messi led Argentina to their sixth World Cup final with a 3-0 victory over Croatia at Lusail Stadium.


Messi now gets one last chance to win the piece of silverware that has eluded him in his trophy-laden career. Manchester City's 22-year-old striker Julian Alvarez scored twice to ensure Argentina will return to the same stadium on Sunday to face either France or Morocco who play their semi final tonight.

 

Rugby - French rugby chief Bernard Laporte has been given a two-year suspended prison sentence and a 75,000 euro fine for corruption, nine months before the country hosts the World Cup.The French Rugby Federation president has stepped down as vice-chair of World Rugby.

 

F1 - Frederic Vasseur will join Ferrari as team principal next month and will be replaced by McLaren boss Andreas Seidl, who will head up Audi's  Formula 1 programme at Alfa Romeo/Sauber.
The Frenchman, 54, who has been Alfa Romeo/Sauber's managing director since 2017, will replace Mattia Binotto. German Seidl, 46, has been McLaren's team principal since 2019.
