BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister’s Office minister has given his policies to Public Relations Department (PRD) personnel, asking for the PRD to perform an added role in coordination. In this way, public plights may be swiftly relayed to state agencies and action can be taken to resolve problems quickly.

Prime Minister’s Office Minister Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana delivered his policies to PRD personnel at the department’s headquarters in Phayathai district, Bangkok. The policy brief was part of an activity to foster understanding among PRD personnel about current public communication guidelines. The day’s activity was also partaken in by PRD Director-General Lt. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd and Prime Minister’s Office Permanent Secretary Teerapong Wongsiwawilas. PRD executives and personnel from headquarters as well as provincial offices were in attendance to hear out the policies.

Minister Thanakorn commended the PRD for having brought about changes and performing as an agency the public could rely on. In keeping with present-day communication demands, he said accuracy, conciseness, and target matching are needed. He is emphasizing two-way communication between the government and the public. This would enable public input to be fed back to the government. He also emphasized constructive communication and the relay of facts, which will enable bodies of knowledge to be fostered among the public. The hope is to facilitate people’s capacity to make analyses of information.

The minister also placed importance on online communication. He asked the PRD to take government policies and initiatives and use them to create awareness for the public. This would especially be true for public complaints, where the PRD would now perform as a coordinating agency. Relaying public plights to the responsible agencies would then enable assistance and remedies to be issued swiftly.

Mr. Thanakorn noted he is familiar with the PRD director-general as the two worked together when he was the government spokesperson. He said this gave him confidence that changes in the PRD’s performance will be in a positive direction.
