Thailand’s opposition parties demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Prayut from his position as Defence Minister, in order to demonstrate responsibility over the sinking of HTMS Sukhothai in the Gulf of Thailand on Sunday night.


A House committee on military affairs will question prime minister Prayut and the head of the navy next week,  an advisor to the committee criticized safety standards including a shortage of lifejackets.

 

The government voted unanimously to remove a section of the cannabis and hemp bill that says cannabis was not considered a narcotic.


The removal followed MP’s concerns that it would have allow room for the recreational use of cannabis which is something the draft law is intended to control. 

 

The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau made 4 arrests after investigation lead them to several houses in Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Ayutthaya.


Officers seized several unlicensed home made firearms which were intended to be sold to students, they also seized mobile phones, ATM cards and bank books. The 4 suspects confessed to making the weapons and making them available for sale online.


A recent outbreak of some 600 cases of polio in 22 countries including Indonesia has prompted Thai health authorities to advise parents of young children in Thailand to ensure they are vaccinated.


The department said the vaccination rate is around 90 percent and there have been no reports of polio in Thailand during the last 20.

 
A 44 year old woman was arrested as she collected a consignment of  carcasses of protected wild animals at a railway station in Songkhla 


Police had been tipped off that the woman was due to pick up the consignment and moved in to arrest her as she loaded bags containing the dead animals into her car.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong visited Beijing yesterday, her visit  has spurred hopes for warmer relations and trade stability between the two countries. Following their meeting, Ms Wong said there is a need for the major trading partners to manage their differences and grow their relationship.
