One of the 23 missing crew of the ill-fated HTMS Sukhothai was found dead this evening (Friday) and was recovered from the sea by HTMS Bang Rachan near the location of the sunken vessel.

Admiral Pokkrong Monthatphalin, spokesman for the Royal Thai Navy, said Friday night that the body was found drifting at sea at about 4.15pm.

The remains were then taken back to Bang Saphan port. Upon arrival, they were placed in an ambulance and taken to the district’s Sawangratsattha Dhammasathan Foundation for identification.

RIP.

Very sad, lives lost at sea.

"the body was found drifting at sea" - with or without a lifejacket?

When will the very, very guilty navy confess to the number of dead sailors on their watch? Who will take the blame? Will the commander of the navy, the vice admiral and the ship captain take any responsibility for this avoidable tragedy? Will they suffer any consequences?

My friend sent me a image of the ship in 40 metres of water. 15 bodies recovered.

As he is in command he is the person ultimately responsible for everything that happens on the vessel, in terms of culpability and liability, even though it may have been someone else's mistake that caused this.

In addition, he is the person responsible for managing any major accident event, his ability and competence to manage the emergency as the incident commander is a function of his role as Captain..

One wonders if he was competent enough, given the poor training and competency management apparent in every vocation here.

RIP to the dead sailors.
