BANGKOK (NNT) - The COVID situation after the New Year holidays may require special attention as Thailand prepares for a fresh influx of tourists following the relaxation of China’s Zero COVID policy.

Thailand remains among the top destinations for Chinese tourists, whose return is expected to greatly benefit the local economy and tourism scene. Acknowledging that COVID outbreaks are still occuring in China, ministers for health, tourism and transport will soon meet to discuss measures for accommodating Chinese travelers.

China is preparing to significantly relax COVID restrictions on travel starting January 8th, in a move expected to bring waves of Chinese tourists in Thailand. Transport Minister Saksayam revealed that the ministers of health, transport and tourism will convene on January 5th to formulate measures for accommodating the Chinese travelers.

The health ministry is coordinating with the Chinese embassy in Bangkok to hash out the details of China’s reopening, as this will allow Thailand to more effectively implement health measures and protocols. The Ministry of Transport also assigned The Civil Aviation Authority Of Thailand and

Aeronautical Radio of Thailand to determine the number of inbound flights from China.

Minister Saksayam said more than a week remains until China’s reopening and he was confident in being able to manage the expected influx of Chinese travelers.

They should keep them out , Covid is rife in China at the moment according to reports,

As they started this problem ,best to keep them from coming to Thailand , BUT the

temptation of tourist money will be too great I fear.

I am more afraid of the irritating situations that will arise again when these masses flood the place en masse.

Feeling the ever present sense of Sinophobic angst amongst the usual Occidental circles.

Appears to be a running theme/reference for quite some time.

What gives?

????

Get them shrimps ready!

There is nothing 'sinophobic' about it at all? There is a real threat that allowing millions of Chinese into Thailand is going to spread Covid, very rapidly, have you been watching the news?

Whilst many people have been vaccinated the old especially are at great risk and the hospitals could be overwhelmed?

They really need to test all these Chinese tourists for covid. If this is not done there is a very real risk that other countries will ban travelers from Thailand to their countries.

Chinese tourists (cash) next month or a steady rebuild of the tourist industry?

Cash next month of course!

Cash next month to the Chinese triads running the Chinese tourist business here in Thailand.

Now india will require negative covid test from travelers from Thailand. Indians will still come here but will probably have a think as they will probably need a negative test when returning from Thailand.

France and Spain have also now said they will require Covid tests from incoming Chinese?

The list is getting longer!

UK looks like it will also require testing?

Canada just announced it too.

Its happening slowly.

Let's keep our heads out of the clouds;  there is no way Thailand will insist on it.  Not a chance.
