Thai Rath reported on a tragic murder that took place in a cassava field 300 meters behind a house in Ban Rai, Lat Yao, Nakhon Sawan, central/north Thailand.

A 55 year old lady called Anongnak Pannon was sleeping soundly with her three year old granddaughter who she had cared for since birth.

She was suddenly awoken at 4 am by her son Ronnachai Pannon, 27, who told her a water pipe had burst in the bathroom.

She went to look and found that was not the case.

When she returned to her bedroom she saw Ronnachai running out cradling the three year old Nareeman Pannon.

She chased after him but it was dark and she lost him in the field behind their house so she decided to enlist the help of neighbors to find her son and granddaughter.

They then made a grim discovery.

They found the lifeless body of Nareeman in a ditch with her mouth stuffed with earth. She was dead.

When Lat Yao police arrived with rescue services shortly thereafter they further discovered that there were no injuries on the body.

Anongnak said that she saw her son flee on a black motorcycle.

Police believed he could not go far, the tank was half empty and he had no money.

Police colonel Wattanakit Chaleoprakhon confirmed these details and said they continued the search for Ronnachai and a warrant would be issued today.

The grandmother had told them that Ronnachai had been on a New Year binge and had not slept for days. She believed he might have been taking drugs as well as consuming booze.

Thai Rath did not report any prior history of assault or drug abuse in this story, notes ASEAN NOW.

So, she already try to find excuses for his behavior.

I have to wonder if the girl was already dead before the diversion of the burst water pipe.

Now why would you wonder that?

Did you read the OP?

Thanks. I admit being too lazy to read the original article.

How did you make the jump from the OP comment into finding excuses for his behaviour?

I certainly didn't read it that way, and I don't think many other people would either.

Read it as you wish. To me it sounds like the grandmother is building up a defense.

No problem with Thai people. Only with families such as this one.

Why do you believe that the grandmother would need to build up a defence?
