A Chinese lady they called "Lin", 39, was driving a pick-up with her one year old daughter. Witnesses reported seeing the pick-up get stuck on the rails at a crossing in Mahachai district. The Mahachai to Wong Wian Yai train was about to arrive. The lady got out cradling her daughter but made the mistake of not fleeing to the side. She ran down the tracks with her daughter. The train smashed into the pick-up then the mother and child. Both died in hospital. The provincial governor and his deputy were later on the scene promising improvements to the positioning of warnings at crossings. Of course when reading it in the comfort of your own room, or on a bar stool or whatever, it seems like an extremely stupid decision. But people don't work well under pressure, and when something is coming towards you the natural reaction is to run away from it. I'm sure if there had been more time before the impact she would have figured out fairly quickly that she needed to run to the side. These decisions take place in a matter of seconds.
