Woman Senator Lashes At Prayut For Doing Nothing To Combat Corruption

Featured Replies

It's all lip service, the next one, (PM) that comes along will utter the same as Too did when the usurper took power and everything will continue on as before.

Good on her. Someone needs to state the obvious and launch a major investigation into the affairs of Prayuth, Prawit, Phiphat, Anutin and the corrupt senators.    They have never addressed h

  • Good for her for calling out his worthless administration!!

  • Please more people bash away.  However I lost all faith in Thai voters when they voted in the new constitution.  I'm thinking many can't read, and lots don't have time or desire to read about the poli

Senator Pornthip Rojanasunand,

Thailand's best known top Forensic Scientist who introduced the Thai public to DNA evidence, key to the identification of many of the tsunami victims after the tragedy in December 2004. IMO she should be well qualified to assist in corruption investigations. She also played a vital role in the Koh Tao murder investigations stating the DNA evidence on the murder weapon, a hoe, did not match either of the two Burmese defendants however an Australian Forensic Scientist brought in, challenged the sampling technique and, as we all know, the two defendants were eventually found guilty.

Why should the unelected PM really want to curb corruption? Doesn't he want to see his offshore accounts keep increasing?

looks like porthips mouth got muscled out and away from the trough...555

It really annoys me that the villagers need a headman telling them what to do every day on the loud speakers. Obviously the thinking is that they can't think for themselves.

Somewhere is all this is the classic 'you think too much', which is a seen as a joke but it does have roots, plus 'you don't need to think, your superiors should do all the thinking'.

All leading to 'just do as your told by your supervisors', in other words 'vote for whoever your supervisors tell you too'.

And with each lash Prayut looked at her and purred......meow.

There is no hope for Thailand, no government has ever really gone after corruption. The next government will be the same. You can see it clearly by senators just hopping to where they can get the most benefits without any political allegiance. This just shows they are in it for the money.

PTP was hugely corrupt too, Prayut was going to clean that up and failed. Nothing will change besides who gets the money. None of them want a system that is clear and transparant because then they all would loose their benefits and reasons to be in government.

Its a sad state of affairs, i do hope that Prayut loses. Maybe the opposition can go after corruption of the Prayut government then. But at the same time they will create their own. So its not a solution but at least some will face jailtime. Better then none at all.

You speak a lot of sense but when it goes to the very, very top, and the idea is to protect him/them, there is little chance of change. If the common person actually took notice and realised that collectively they could make real change, if they took notice.

My instinct says that nothing different will happen. the normal status quo.

If Prayuth would be doing anything to fight corruption he would have a conflict of interest .....

Endemic corruption is never easy to eliminate; reducing corruption in other countries takes decades of uninterrupted democratic rule.  It's also a never ending battle, corruption is never completely eliminated and there are always greedy officials eager to bring it back.

I am not aware of any military government or other autocracy that ever attempted to eliminate reduction, at best they might attack corruption that doesn't benefit the existing power structure.

If Thailand is to get corruption under control it needs uninterrupted democratic rule that is not threatened by another military coup, not this facade of democracy it currently has.  And it needs for people to be patient and not expect quick fixes.  I well remember the people who cheered Prayut's coup because a few years of democratic rule hadn't eliminated corruption.  They actually thought Prayut would make things better!

Yes, lest we forget......he rolled into power with tanks behind him and a promise of eradicating corruption and 'returning happiness to the people.' Personally I don't see that he has done anything at all about endemic corruption and I'm a faring so I can't comment on whether happiness has been returned to the people as farangs were specifically excluded from having happiness returned apparently as we were happy enough already.

I think they've made the trough more accessable to the connected! Why would they address corruption, 60 million Thai's dont seem to mind, they do nothing to change anything!

I must be Thai then ????

It was her, and forensic institute she set up and chaired, who approved for purchase by thailand 2500 fake bomb, drug etc detectors called GT200, at $1000 per piece.
By using this magic vand she has decided, that the only dead victim of police crackdown on PAD violent protest on 08.10.2008 near the parliament was hit by police gas canister.

She, and nobody else ever admitted their mistake, apologised or faced any consequences.
Many/all, that including her, were bribed by the manufacturer.

also I have came accross an article from 10.11.2020, which shows her as a nasty piece of work:

"The quite mad ultra-royalist and military junta appointed senator Pornthip Rojanasunand has accused protesters of being “unThai” and complained that “police commanders are not doing enough to protect the law and suppress [pro-democracy protesters]…”.

going through archived articles at khasod english and prachathai english would bring more of her antics

she is as corrupted, as nasty as all senators. Thats exactly why they were selected by the junta. All of them are the core of political establishment

He had no intention to do anything,  as its to lucrative for him and his crownies..

Plus, it's obvious he has no idea what to do about corruption and nobody is helping, because 'why kill the golden goose?'

The village I live in the headman has little power. His main job is acting as a notary signing documents for a 100฿ tip. If the villagers heard him promoting any candidate ,there first question would be " how much was he paid? " and " if they want my vote they should pay me ,not the headman."

The daily loud speaker announcements keep the headman in control.

Unfortunately many including myself thought that phayut might turn things around - - - but no it wasn't to be and now he's been here too long causing untold damage that will take years to rectify, if ever in my life time.

Pornthip has a bit of a shady past anyone remember her backing those dodgy bomb detectors?

On the contrary. She was criticised by those who wanted her decisions to be made according to their instructions, rather than her making decisions based on the facts. She has always walked  where others fear to tread, and all credit to her for that. She bravely risks reprisals in one form or another...

And this is the true definition of heroism, patriotism, courage, and facing fear. Kudos to her. She speaks out regardless of whether or not it will change anything, or put her in danger. She speaks out, because it is the right thing to do, in the face of pure greed, total indifference to your people, avarice, and absolute moral bankruptcy.
