How to get a stray cat out of our house.

I left the screen door in the back of our house open when I went out to the car to bring some groceries into the house. The cat must have entered the house then. When I came back into  the house and  closed the screen door. I few minutes later I saw the cat, it panicked and started climbing up the screen door. I didn't have enough time to open the screen door to let it out. It clawed its way up the screen door and it got into the  space near the top of the ceiling and the wall of the house  and then frantically followed the space and went onto the ceiling of the bathroom. Our bathroom has about a two-foot space between the roof of the house and the bathroom ceiling. It is now in that space between the outside bathroom ceiling and the roof of the house. We got a ladder hoping to somehow coaxe it out. But it gets a bit viscous if we try to prod it with a broom.    My wife, who is not particularly fond of cats, unlike myself, has no idea how to get the cat to out of the house. Of course, I don't either. I am hoping the cat will just  down and if we leave the screen door open through out the night it will leave. But It's about an 11-foot jump down to the floor. I don't think cats like to jump down from heights. Any suggestions?

Just let it where it is, it will die eventually and smell bad for a few weeks. Just get one of those "Dead cat" deodorants from Makro.

Meanwhile, it will be ridding your attic space of any annoying critters that have moved in.

We have been "adopted" by a pretty little kitty, a little food to keep her happy (not too much or she won't do her job), I've not seen a rat since she moved in.

I can't get within 2m of her.

Keep it, will kill rats and lizards, I have 2 cats....????

PS. It will come down, whatever the drop..

Sounds like a job for a small dog.

Move a few roof tiles?

The dog will probably fear the cat...????

Buy a tin of tuna, open it and put just outside the door, the cat will get interested in the tuna before long.

We have two (fairly large) Chihuahuas, the cat sits on Madam's day-bed or the dining table and teases them!

Kitty stays just out of reach!

So will every other creature in the area!

i guess it will come down when hungry and doesn't feel threatened, using a broomstick probably not the best idea

This is my rat killer, taken about an hour ago.............Cat2.jpg.7eed4e4b595849f00c768f2bddefa900.jpg

This is the pretty one, takes care of lizards..........

But they don't get on, both females......:crying:

My cat would whore herself to a street dog for tinned fish. Sardines, pilchards.

Like the tuna can post. I think tinned fish smell stronger.

My fear is the cat won't come down. It might feel the  distance from the height of the ceiling to the floor is a bit  daunting. I put a large step ladder next to the outside bathroom wall hoping it might use it as an aid in navigating its escape. But so far lots of meows.

See if you can find a stray Python to swallow the cat ????

During the night the cat finally descended from the top of the bathroom, ate the two bowls of canned fish we used to lure it down, and then left the house. We kept the back door open all night. When I got up and noticed the fish had been eaten, I looked out the door and saw the cat sitting on the top of the wall next to our house looking at me. Haven't seen the cat since. The cat just came around our house to escape dogs I think since the walls and gate offered protection. I never fed the cat. I would sometimes see the cat crouching behind bushes or plants trying to catch birds. Then it would disappear for days. Our neighbours  who have chickens claim the cat has been eating their baby chic's.

I would like to thank all the posters for your useful advice i.e.,  get a python, get a dog, but some dead cat deodorant from Makro to use after it dies.

Really? A dog vs cat ????

This is simply a human being reincarnated into a stray cat.

Possibly someone you knew before?

It might have been someone famous??????

treat it bad, you will be reincarnated as a mouse.

Where do you live? Is there any animal shelter replacement org close to you? If so they can help you out next time to move the cat, and the neighbors will not Poison it. If you care what is going ro happen to it. If not, the neighbors will take care of it sooner or later.

Tinned Fish is a good idea

But if this Cat is anything like ours, it will scoff all the Sauce and leave the Fish.

About 8 months ago a cat appeared at our front door meowing loudly, we gave it some tuna and left over rice and it devoured it.

Quickly adopted us as a source of nutrition and came regularly to feed, we started buying cat food and nicknamed him Lucky.

He will sleep on a cushion outside overnight and as soon as we show signs of stirring will make it known he is ready for his breakfast.

He likes to come inside to sleep off the food and can spend most of the daylight hours asleep inside if we let him ( we never leave him inside alone ).

He can disappear for a couple of days at a time, visiting his other “ families “ but always returns.

I think we can assume that he feels safe with us .
