Russia orders Estonian ambassador to leave country

The Estonian ambassador in Russia has been ordered to leave the country by 7 February after the Kremlin accused the country of "Russophobia".

In a statement, the Russian foreign ministry said Estonia had "purposefully destroyed" relations with Moscow.

Margus Laidre is the first ambassador Russia has expelled since invading Ukraine last year.

Way to go Estonia. Do not believe anything that Putin has to say.

Has the Russian Ambassador been expelled from Estonia in retaliation??

They are not "Russophobe", they are "Putinophobe", and yes, there is a difference. Here is to hoping that Putin will face that difference during his lifetime.

Estonia is culturally / historically quite pro-Russian, but I bet they are now thinking about building a big fence.......

Seriously? Estonia is culturally/historically pro-Russian?

No, Estonians are not at all pro-Russian, quite the opposite in fact, and culturally we are totally different (I’m an Estonian). However, 25 percent of Estonia’s population is Russian speaking, and there is much disagreement among that segment. And while many Russian speakers may have sympathy for their country of heritage, they’re not rushing to move there -- who in their right mind would want to live in Russia when they can live in the EU? It’s a complicated situation.

No, the person who posted that is mistaken. In 1941 for instance when the Nazis invaded the Baltics, Estonians invited them as liberators because they were chasing the Russians out. Etc.
