Goodboybkk Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Why is Thailand so late to approve gay/lesbian marriage bill? https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/how-same-sex-marriage-could-become-legal-in-india/2023/01/24/3dbb0f4a-9bcd-11ed-93e0-38551e88239c_story.html https://news.yahoo.com/taiwan-officially-recognizes-same-sex-235042636.html Thanks 1
Emeraldisle Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Thai government probably can't see how to make any money out of it 1 1
HuskerDo2 Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Culture possibly. Maybe they don't deem it a priority. Maybe they don't agree with it. Maybe because they are slow on everything. 1
TeacherJane Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Support for gay marriage is mostly a Western thing, if you look on the map. So the arguments in favor have a cultural basis, and do not apply strongly, to Thailand. Where marriage is seen as between a man and a woman, to produce children. In Western societies, social obligation on marriage is rownplayed, and even heterosexual marriage is a lifestyle choice.
orchis Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 getting there. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/thailand-edges-closer-legalising-same-sex-marriage-2023-12-21/
mfd101 Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 Thai culture loves complexity and ambiguity ie lots of wriggle room. So why clarify things? 1
brianthainess Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 Probably trying to figure out how they can stop Nasty dirty smelly Falang from getting a Marriage extension. Tic.
