(Left) Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan is set to unveil the return of key economic ministers in the governments of General Prayut Chan ocha to the Palang Pracharat Party on Monday including former economy czar and deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak (right). The move was indirectly praised by Pheu Thai Party standard bearer Paetongtarn Shinawatra (centre) who said it showed that General Prawit had more charisma and is more popular than Prime Minister Prayut Chan ocha.

Monday will see a return of the former economic team, including three key ministers under General Prayut, to front-line politics and the ranks of the Palang Pracharat Party including ex-economic czar Somkid Jatusripitak. The news comes as the Royal Gazette also confirmed the King has approved the new electoral act which strengthens Pheu Thai’s chances in the General Election after the previous system favoured smaller parties.

Pheu Thai Party standard bearer Paetongtarn Shinawatra or Ung Ing took a swipe at Prime Minister Prayut Chan ocha on Saturday when questioned about reports that former ministers in the government, including one-time economic czar and deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak, are to rejoin the Palang Pracharat Party under General Prawit Wongsuwan. The presumptive prime ministerial candidate told reporters that General Prawit was a more charismatic and better-loved leader than General Prayut.

On Saturday, the likely Pheu Thai Party candidate for prime minister in May’s General Election, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, dismissed any threat from a newly reconstituted Palang Pracharat Party which is poised to welcome back its economic A team which was part of the government before being ousted in a political heave in July 2020.

Quite possible. In a true and fair poll, Prawit might get a 3% approval rating over Prayuth's 2%.

Dependent on how one might read into this latest story......

Appears to be they're up to their old manipulating tricks.

Requiring special blessings and permission to act on anything.

This is not democratic.

As much as that?

And yet, the very abiding media keeps peddling them as viable humans, less candidates.

Challenging nor questioning is signed to their character.

And that's Thai politics for you folks....

Prawit is better liked than PM Prayut

that's like preferring a leech over a tapeworm, which parasite do you like better?

Whoever wins the next election....the old faces will still be seen, albeit with other parties....the old decisions will still be made and life for the politicians will be the same...snouts in the trough...golden bank accounts and they'll still screeching for respect from everyone.

Thailand desperately needs young blood at the helm....but the geriatrics have ensured they will not be removed.

Plenty of frigging in the rigging as a shock victory for a "democratic" general is a guarantee its all down to how much the votes will cost ????

Perhaps this is the struggle to inherit General Prem's position?

Politics aside,

Ung Ing is like a nick name?

So they ran out of nicknames?

I remember this from Sam Cooke's "...that's the sound of the men working on the chain gang...ung ing"

More of everything.  When it was still a legal requirement, he published bank details that showed his deposits amounted to five million every year for five years despite being paid (officially) less than a million per annum.

Should have been "less disliked" (rather than absurd "better liked") if you want some accuracy in headlines
