The spokesman for Thailand's Technology Crime Suppression Division - the kingdom's so called tech cops - noted that tomorrow was Valentine's Day when lovers would be exchanging gifts and giving money and taking part in various associated activities.

 

Pol Col Siriwat Deephor noted three related crimes to look out for.

 

The first was Romance Scams where profiles of rich and handsome farangs and middle easterners try to lure the unwary.

 

These are usually run by Africans in league with Thai women, notes ASEAN NOW.

 

Then there was  the Hybrid Scam where love and investment scams intermingle.

 

Thirdly there was "Sextortion" in which people are blackmailed after having sex on camera.

 

Sextortion was not just an online phenomenon, he noted, as it was also sometimes done by jilted lovers (as revenge porn).

 

He advised people having sex to be careful about being filmed.

 

He said reports of crime could be made 24/7 on tcsd.go.th.

 

Siam Rath said in their headline that the spokesman had also advised the use of condoms for safe sex though their story contained nothing about this particular piece of advice, notes ASEAN NOW.
