The Disease Control Department has instructed international disease control checkpoints at all ports of entry to screen all arrivals from countries currently reported to be affected by Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) as a precautionary measure.

 

Dr. Tares Krassanairawiwong said today (Monday) that The World Health Organisation reported the first-ever outbreak of MVD on February 13th, in Equatorial Guinea, and that 200 people who are considered as being at high-risk have been quarantined.

 

He added that two cases, plus 42 more likely cases, have been reported in Cameroon, which borders Equatorial Guinea.

The SMART thing to do would be to require a test BEFORE they entered Thailand and not after. At least the authorities are consistent in their foolish decision making. Apparently LOS stands for Land of Stupid instead of Land of Smiles.

Me, outside of Thailand, during Covid:  please let tourists come back in!

The impossible thing to do is for Thailand to arrange for every country to screen passengers ultimately destined for Thailand. Many will come via other countries. The last port of call won't work either as many will only transit through those countries. En example to illustrate my point would be Indonesia demanding that a tourist who went there for three days screen a passenger going to Thailand via Singapore. How would that work?

Just because some people think they have a god given right to tell other nations how to behave, it is not in fact a reality.

Is having a test after they enter not a money spinner for the medical profession which also finds it's way to the soldiers government?

No, I'm suggesting that they don't do what they did before by forcing people into hospitals and vastly overcharging them just because they sat near an infected person on the plane.

Ebola and Marburg have a very high fatality rate and the reason they have a slim chance of spreading globally is that the medical community are right on them. They are also less contagious than the flue albeit much more deadly.

I would sincerely hope that anyone who tests for Marburg or Ebola is immediately quarantined and also anyone who came into contact with them. Of course it goes without saying that they would be.
