The Montri Hotel overlooks Thapae Gate. It is clean, has very good air-con, English TV and is 650 during high season - maybe less now. SUPER-freindly/helpful staff. :o

As the original poster has been given a couple of options let me expand this on a slightly different angle but in the same area.

I have a mate coming in August who very much intends to explore Loi Kroh and other areas and needs a hotel that allows 'visitors'. Budget is 1,500 baht. Hotel needs to have a swimming pool assumably to allow him to cool off from the after hours activity. PM me if you prefer.

Thanks

The Top North Hotel is VERY close to the Montri and is around 900 baht with simular amentities and a swimming pool - not as nice though.

May be cheaper now.
