77kaoded Thai Caption: A motorcycle burns

Muang Pattaya police and rescue services were called to the Petchtrakoon lights in North Pattaya at 5 pm yesterday after a Yamaha NMAX burst into flames.

It took just a few minutes to put the blaze out but by that time just the smouldering frame was left.

Satja, 23, told 77kaoded that he was taking his five month pregnant wife to Terminal 21 for dinner. A relative was following on another bike.

Suddenely he saw flames coming from the engine and both he and his wife got off quickly and raced clear fearing an explosion.

He went to a restaurant opposite to try and get an extinguisher as rescue arrived.

He had no idea why it happened though he noted he had recently put the bike in for a new fuel pipe at a mechanic's in Soi Khao Noi.

They got so called mechanics in a lot of places. Got my truck back from the shop and decided to have a look under the bonnet before Mrs went off to 'bahn khee kwai'. The battery had not been fastened down and the terminals simply pushed on the posts and not tightened. How can any worker be so useless? Mrs  could have been stuck in the hills!
