Mae Chan police in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand, intercepted 14 Chinese casino workers who had illegally crossed into the country from Laos.

The workers were from the Kings Roman casino across the border and were on their way to Myawaddy, opposite the Thai province of Mae Sot in Tak, north western Thailand where they were headed to work in another casino.

They were intercepted in three vehicles on the Chiang Saen to Chiang Rai Road, a favorite route for illegal immigrants.

Three Thai drivers were charged with aiding and abetting in a conspiracy.

Amaret, 51, was driving a Toyota pick-up, Chawan, 61, was in a Toyota sedan and 34 year old Bun-im was in a Mitsubishi car, reported Thai Rath.

They admitted to being paid 7,000 baht a head to move the Chinese from Laos to the Myanmar border.

The illegals had slipped over the Mekhong River and been met at the Chiang Saen port.

They are now in the custody of the Mae Chan police.
