The National Environment Board has ordered all 17 provinces in the North to stop burning activities in an attempt to reduce the amount of air pollution.


The level of pm2.5 particles had reached an air quality index of 225 which is purple and extremely unhealthy.
Most of the fires are on agricultural land and in forests, the department said it would close some forests if the situation continues.

 

A standoff between police and a former police officer who fired multiple shots into the air startling neighbours came to an end yesterday afternoon. 


The 51 year old police inspector who held officers at bay for almost 2 days was shot and wounded around lunchtime at his home in Bangkok.


He was taken away and died last night in hospital.

 

The government has approved a budget of 7.7-billion-baht to help more than 27, thousand low-income households forced to move from state railways land required for development.


The five-year plan is aimed at providing proper living accommodation  for the families, who now reside close to railways in about 300 communities across the country.

 

Two student protesters were sentenced to two years in prison after they were found guilty of attempting to set fire to a police tow truck.


The incident occurred during a protest by about 600 people against Prime Minister Prayut at the Victory Monument in August, 2021.
