Police say 5 or 6 prominent Thai individuals may be apprehended for their involvement with suspected Chinese scammers to obtain access to a local bank account worth 176 million baht. Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn said arrests could be carried out next week. 


Thailand's minister for energy says the cost of electricity between May and August will be charged at 4.77 baht per unit, higher than 4.72 baht promised earlier.


Currently business pays more than households,  but new tariff will be the same for both. 

 

Prime Minister Prayut has reached out to neighbouring Asean states to seek assistance with reducing air pollution, He said:

The government has decided not to challenge a Court order to halt the construction of the Chao Phraya Promenade in Bangkok. The matter will now be left for the new government.  

 

The Chao Phraya Promenade is one element of a 12-stage development plan aimed at enhancing the Chao Phraya riverside. Other phases include the establishment of walkways with bicycle lanes along both sides of the river, the creation of new landmarks and piers, the upgrading of historical canals, and improvements to religious sites.

 

An  investigation into a chemical recycling company located in Ayutthaya which stands accused of illegally disposing of industrial waste at an old warehouse and surrounding areas, will now be taken over by the Natural Resources Crime Division.

 

During an inspection of the 1.25-hectare compound, police and other officials discovered around 50 tonnes of industrial waste stored in plastic and iron barrels, as well as other bags. Industrial waste was also found to have been dumped in a pit and covered with soil.

 

The Ministry of Health has launched a campaign to encourage the population to consume less sugar. A safe level is around 6 teaspoons a day, however many people consume around 25!

A traditional wooden boat carrying 29 people capsized in Kyoto Prefecture  yesterday, leaving one person dead and one missing, 25 passengers onboard were rescued, however a 51-year-old staff member who had been punting the boat, died while another staff member, a man in his 40s, is unaccounted for.


Malaysia: Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad threatened to sue current prime minister Anwar Ibrahim for defamation over comments suggesting  the 97-year-old  and his family in amassed  wealth during his time in power.


The legal threat reignites a decades old rivalry between Anwar and Mahathir, who has verbally attacked the new government on an almost daily basis as he tries to revive his political career despite his advanced age.
