Popular Post snoop1130
Photo from Thailand Consumers Council Mazda Sales (Thailand) has been ordered by the Bangkok South Civil Court to recall all Mazda 2 cars with diesel engines produced and sold between 2014 and 2018 for modifications, at the expenses of the company. In a class action lawsuit against the automobile company, the court ruled that the cars, Mazda 2 Skyactiv D1.5, are defective and unsafe. Apart from shouldering the costs to fix the defects, the court said that the company must be responsible for compensating each customer to the tune of 1,800 baht/day, during the period the cars are undergoing modification, and 30,000 baht each for the psychological distress plus 5% interest for the amount owed to the customers since the class action case was filed. ukrules
Noted, if I ever purchase a new car then Mazda who appear to have fought this every step of the way will be at the bottom of the list.

That's gonna sting a bit.
topt
Anybody know what the actual problem with the cars is/was - as the linked article does not give any clues other then saying that they were "defective".......

IIRC, this particular class-action has only 9 litigants. I think Ford dodged the rubbish Fiesta transmission/gearbox bullet for years based on the same broad reasoning. You might want to look into the issues by doing more research like I did. You can also look at the Paper we can not link to for more info. Its a pretty widely known issue. Here's an article but as I said its a widely known engine issue that has been being taken care of elsewhere and it appears here that Mazda would not even do the recall to fix it. https://www.mazda3revolution.com/threads/skyactiv-2-2-diesel-recall-aj024b.231901/

They are related engines but the 1.5 has some different technologies on it. In Europe the 2.2 has proven a very troublesome engine - oil dilution is the major problem. Certainly cars just out of warranty have been scrapped due to engine failure and Mazda don't want to know. The 1.5 is a somewhat more exotic beast than the 2.2.... Mazda have very much gone off on a technological tangent in recent years. I really don't understand why they persist with i-ELOOP - a lot of expensive extra components for a seemingly minute gain in fuel economy.

The same issues are befalling the 2014 to 2018 Skyactiv 1.5 diesel engines, the Mazda CX-5 has been killed off in the US and it had the same 2.2 engine. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a35216165/mazda-cx-5-diesel-dead/ The 1.5 engine as I said is experiencing similar problems https://uscarsnew.com/mazda-1-5-skyactiv-d-engine/ Additional Mazda 2 recalls in the UK https://www.vehicle-recall.co.uk/make/MAZDA/Mazda2
