MOPH reports Cambodian government requesting assistance in handling dengue fever outbreaks

The Ministry of Public Health reports that the Cambodian government has requested aid from the Thai government in handling dengue hemorraghic fever outbreaks.

The Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, Dr. Thawat Suntrajarn (์ธวัช สุนทราจารย์), revealed that the Cambodian government has issued a letter to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to request assistance in handling critical dengue hemorraghic fever situations in Cambodia. Continuous rain and abundant mosquito breeding has resulted in record dengue fever infections throughout Cambodia.

Cambodia reports 1,914 dengue fever patients in April, 5,205 dengue fever patients in May, and 9,646 dengue fever patients in June. 132 patients have lost their lives. The Director-General of the Department of Disease Control revealed that Cambodia's appeal for assistance is covered under the Greater Mekong Subregion public health treaty.

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont has instructed the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide immediate assistance to Cambodian dengue fever patients.

Not just Cambodia, the Singaporean authorities are having a hard time with it this year, last I heard 3 deaths, and higher infection rates.

Thai government provides medical aid to dengue fever patients in Cambodia

The Thai government is sending medical personnel and equipment to Cambodia in order to assist with dengue hemorraghic fever outbreaks.

Prime Minister Gen Surayud Chulanont has instructed the Ministry of PUblic Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to transfer more than 20 million baht in medical equipment and tropical disease experts to Cambodia in order to assist Cambodian authorities with treatment of dengue hemorraghic fever outbreaks.

Minister of Public Health MD Mongkol Na Songkhla and Deputy Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs Chariyawat Santhabuth (จริยวัฒน์ สันตบุตร ) as well as other officials representing the Thai government are coordinating to expedite the transfer of equipment to Cambodian public health workers. MD Mongkol reports that Cambodia currently has more than 10,000 dengue fever patients, with more than 100 fatalities incurred.
