Cooperation between Thai and Australian authorities led to a raid on a house in Bangkok where authorities seized more than 29 kilos of heroin hidden in plastic sheets that were about to be shipped to Australia,  further investigation lead to more drugs being seized in Thailand taking the total to 93 kilos of heroin and 161 kilos of crystal methamphetamine.

About 12,000 Myanmar refugees left the Mae Sot district of Tak and returned to Myawaddy after they had taken shelter at 15 locations on the Thai side of the border over the past week,  as Thai soldiers continued to guard the border areas.
 
Maechan Hospital in Chiang Rai was preparing to evacuate its staff and patients last night as  a fire raged nearby. More than 300 rangers and firefighters worked to contain the fire on a mountainside about one and a half kilometers away, 

The fires were eventually brought under control, leaving smoke as the main cause for concern.

The Office of the National Water Resources has warned people to prepare for a drought by saving water due to risks posed by the El Nino phenomenon resulting in less rainfall than usual at this time of year.
the office stressed it has a plan to respond to drought especially during a period of intermittent rain in August.

North Korea announced today it had successfully tested a solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile , which state media hailed as a key breakthrough for the country's nuclear counterattack capabilities.
South Korea's military said that the North had likely tested a new ballistic missile, with the launch briefly triggering an evacuation order in parts of Japan.
