A federal judge on Tuesday temporarily blocked a pair of Florida bans on gender-affirming care for youths while a legal challenge plays out, arguing that both are likely to be found unconstitutional.

Why it matters: U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle, a Clinton appointee, wrote that "gender identity is real" and agreed with the plaintiffs that gender-affirming care is "medically necessary."

Four Florida families argued in their lawsuit that the bans violated the Constitution's equal protection clause by singling out trans minors and asked the court to freeze the bans while the lawsuit is reviewed.

Hinkle said that both of Florida's bans represent a "purposeful discrimination against transgenders."

Hardly surprising there is an injunction on this. The full judgement here.

The court called out the Legislator who called trans people "mutants" and "demons." (page 33)

"This decision is extremely strong and dismantles every far right talking point about gender affirming care. Once again, Twitter talking points don't hold up in court."

Well, let's see how it plays out in the courts. Fair enough, that is the strength of the system. People get their chance to challenge the government if they choose.

Seems the ruling only applies to the three plaintiffs in the case, from how I read the story.
