Anti-junta activist Aekachai Hongkangwan and four other defendants were acquitted by the Criminal Court today (Wednesday) of resorting to violence to block the motorcade of Her Majesty the Queen during an anti-government protest in 2020.

Based on the evidence presented during the trial, the court ruled that they did not commit the offence, as charged by the police, and that the police had not notified the protesters in advance that a Royal motorcade would pass along the road, on which the protesters were marching towards Government House from the Democracy monument.

The incident took place on October 14th, 2020, the first day of anti-government protests organised by the “Khana Ratsadon 2563” group.

Wow. Very few 11x cases result in an acquittal.

Seems like the RTP should be reprimanded, both for bringing questionable and partisan charges, and not properly managing a Royal Procession.

One could argue that the RTP itself is guilty of Lèse-Majesté by using the Royal movement as entrapment of the activists.

Acquittal completely unrelated to the fact that the minimum sentence for this offence is 16 years imprisonment and of course the message that that would send out to bolster the case put forward by Move Forward for reform.

Ouch this is going to anger the husband of the woman in the car. Only going to make his mood worse.

Slowly but surely things are changing.

Yes, the courts here sometimes listen to the drumbeats.

Same-same the 8-7 vote in 2001 clearing Thaksin.

in France there is a saying "" les dieux sont tombés sur la (leur) tête""

in other words it means "" The gods fell on the (their) head""

The minimum sentence is 3 years, maximum 15.

Were the defendants discharged, or returned to custody pending trial for something, anything, else?

A good ruling… and fair

And compensation for wrongful arrest is where ? ????

They should be charged with masquerading as a police force.
