Prachachat party leader Wan Muhamad Noor Matha revealed on Monday that he has not yet officially been informed that Pheu Thai will nominate him for House speaker.

 

He said he does not want the position, because he wishes to remain the Prachachat party leader and he has already taken that and other important political positions.

 

He added, however, that, if Pheu Thai really wants him to do the job and Move Forward approves of with the decision, he will do it for the sake of democracy and to end the tussle between two major coalition parties.

Before the election both Cholanan, the PT leader, and Phumtam, a senior figure in PT, insisted the House Speaker 's position must belong to the party with the most seats.

Move Forward, Pheu Thai endorse veteran politician Wan Muhamad for House speaker

 

 

The Move Forward and Pheu Thai parties have agreed to nominate Prachachat party leader Wan Muhamad Noor Matha as the sole candidate for the House speakership, ending weeks of political wrangling over the position.

 

Newly-elected MPs will convene on Tuesday for the first time and the first item on the agenda is to elect the new House speaker, a position which has been a bone of contention between the two parties.

 

The first deputy House speaker will be an MP from the Move Forward party while the second will be from Pheu Thai, said Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat at a press conference Monday evening (3 July).

 

The six other coalition parties were informed of the decision and support the agreement, according to Pita. He said that all coalition parties will adhere to the MOU signed among them and give their “utmost support” to his bid to become prime minister.

It is called coalition sharing, or a compromise? and a good one too.

 

My only thought is that I am 79 and he is a few days older than me.
