Around 500 cars and motorcycles rallied in central Bangkok yesterday afternoon to demand the senators who did not vote for prime ministerial candidate Pita Lim-jaroen-rat should resign.


They gathered at the Democracy Monument before moving on to the headquarters of the navy, army and the police.


Activist Mr Arnon Nampa called on senators to vote for Mr Pita in the next round, adding Mr Pita was the prime ministerial candidate of the eight political allies which had a majority in the house.


Mr Pita said earlier he would withdraw his candidacy if parliament did not endorse him this next week,

A Nida poll of over 1,300 people found most still endorse Mr Pita Limjaroenrat as prime minister  no matter how many rounds of voting it would possibly take. 


Just under 13 percent of respondents suggested the Move Forward give up on policies which most senators may strongly disapprove of such as the Les Majeste law.


Freight transport companies are concerned with the current 5-baht subsidy on diesel excise tax which is likely to be dropped by the government from Thursday. 


The department of transport says scrapping the waiver would pressure businesses to pass on increasing transport costs to consumers.

 

The Thai Sang Party has criticized Thailand’s Foreign Minister who met with Aung San Suu Kyi on July 9th, the party said his meeting may hurt efforts of Asean in negotiating a meeting with Suu Kyi. they added he has shown support for the Myanmar junta on several occasions, by holding unofficial meetings in Myanmar or inviting top officials for informal meetings in Thailand.

Japan issued heatstroke alerts yesterday as near-record high temperatures scorched much of the country, even as torrential rain drenched other regions killing at least one man who became trapped in his  vehicle..
Temperatures neared 40C celsius in many places including Tokyo.

 

Meanwhile at least 37 people have been killed by torrential rain in South Korea. Rescuers continue their search for missing people in a flooded tunnel.
