MOUNT POCONO — A Mount Pocono manufacturer has agreed to pay a $500,000 civil lawsuit settlement to the U.S. Department of Defense and a California company for outsourcing U.S. flag emblems for military uniforms to Thailand and saying those emblems were made in America, the U.S. Department of Justice said Tuesday.

MOUNT POCONO — A Mount Pocono manufacturer has agreed to pay a $500,000 civil lawsuit settlement to the U.S. Department of Defense and a California company for outsourcing U.S. flag emblems for military uniforms to Thailand and saying those emblems were made in America, the U.S. Department of Justice said Tuesday.

The crime committed was that the company declared that the flags were made in the U.S. when they weren't.  That's against the law, a false declaration of "source/origin."

I used to do a lot of procurement for USAID and this was always a concern, different rules, "buy U.S. only,"  "buy U.S. and certain developing countries,"  "buy world wide anywhere except for commie countries," etc.

A few employees of Fischer Scientific in New Jersey did a dirty on one contract in Khartoum, microscopes "source/origin" in the U.S. but relabeled as U.S. made however made in Japan.  Four employees fired, FS fined by the court some $400,000 or so.

If the source/origin for a particular procurement includes Thailand, no problem, can buy here.  I've done it in the past.
