Does Anybody Have An Air Cleaner?

I'm seriously thinking about buying an air cleaner for my place. Anybody have any experience with this?

In Bangkok, the justification for this purchase is easy. I just need to figure out the details.

At Central Department store, they have a pretty good looking unit for 22,000. Quite a chunk of money, but if it really does the job it'll be worth it for me. According to the salesman there, the filter would only need to be replaced once every 2-3 years, the monthly electricity would be less than 100 baht, and they send a maintenance crew to checkup every 4 months.

Will it really work? Will it dramatically clean up the air in my dwellings? Anybody have any advice about what to look for in an air cleaner?

Thanks.

I think there's a good chance it is just snake oil, but I need some more information. How do you know it's just snake oil?

big c

hatari air cleaner

it's not snake oil, take the filter out after a couple of months and see what you spared your lungs from.

Dancali,

I think Huski gives the best recomendation. I would surf around the web though for a little bit just to get some more info.

You want a HEPA standard filter aned avoid the negative ion and ozone generaters.

I have a LUX air filter. ( I also have Rhinitis.)

Had it for three years, works a treat.

Has lots of buttons to push to select all the programs, very quiet and no noticeable increase in electric bill. I clean the filter every couple of months, it gets very black so I know it works.

Ion "air purifyers" were promoted in Europe a few years ago. Supposedly it did something magic to the air that was supposed to be good, but different test organizations failed to see any actualy difference with/without it, hence the snakeoil.

If on the other hand it is some kinda thing that pumps air through a filter I'd think there is at least some sort of functionality ... but I'd normally expect that to be done by my AC unit (remember to clean/replace the AC filters regularly)
