The man, a 30-year-old Arab businessman with a British passport, arrived in Bangkok on June 16 and was deported to Britain on Monday, the officer, who declined to be identified, told Reuters. "We were asked by British authorities to look for this man suspected of being involved in the London attack. We found him, brought him to the airport and put him on the plane to England," the officer said. Two car bombs primed to explode in London's bustling theatre and nightclub district were discovered early on June 29. The following day a jeep crashed into the terminal building at Glasgow airport in Scotland and burst into flames. Officials at the British embassy in Bangkok declined immediate comment. We found him, brought him to the airport and put him on the plane to England." UK asked Thailand to monitor suspect BRITISH authorities asked Thailand to monitor the movements of a UK man with suspected ties to extremists, but he had no link to last month's car bomb plot and was not deported, police said today. “There was a British citizen who British authorities asked us to monitor. He came to Thailand with a tour group of three or four people on June 17 and went to Pattaya and Krabi,” national police spokesman Lieutenant General Ronnarong Yungyuen said. “He already left for Britain on July 2." “We have monitored his travels and reported that he departed. No one was arrested or detained.” Local media reported that the Briton of Arab descent was a suspect in last month's attempted car bombings in London and Glasgow, but Ronnarong denied that the man was linked to the plot. “There is no connection with the (attempted) London bombing,” he said. The British Foreign Office also said it was not aware of any arrests in Thailand made at London's request. “HMG (Her Majesty's Government) is not aware of any arrests in Thailand made at the request of HMG,” it said in a statement released by the British embassy in Bangkok. The investigation into three failed car bomb attacks in London and Glasgow in late June has stretched far beyond Britain's borders. One suspect was arrested on July 2 in the eastern Australian city of Brisbane, after seven people, including at least four foreign doctors, were detained in Britain. British police had asked Thai counterparts to track the man _ from Pakistan and with a British passport _ and he entered Thailand on June 17 before going to the southern resort region of Krabi, a police spokeswoman said. He returned to England on July 2, police Col. Ronarg Yangyuen said. Thai police declined to give the man's name or say whether he was a suspect in the failed terror plots in London and Glasgow, Scotland. They said that since the man was not on an Interpol blacklist, Thailand had no authority to detain him. The man needed to be "closely watched", he said, but did not appear on any blacklists and left Thailand for Britain on July 2 of his own accord. I remember the days when trying to extradite a Provo (IRA) from 300 yards inside the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland (UK) took an eternity, and even then wasn't cast iron!! London bomb suspect traveled in Thailand for tourism purposes The Special Branch Police indicates that a suspect in the London bomb attack was in Thailand for pleasure only. Pol Maj Gen Tridash Ranarydhivijaya, a commander attached to the Special Branch Police, disclosed that Thai immigration had detained a suspect connected to the recent London bombing. The suspect had entered Thailand with two of his friends for traveling purposes. They were scheduled to return to England on July 2nd. A spokesman at the British Embassy in Bangkok said there was no link between the man and the failed terrorist attacks in London and Glasgow in late June. Deputy Special Branch Police commissioner Pol. Maj-Gen. Trithot Ronrithiwichai said his agency had acted on a tip from a British intelligence unit to investigate and question a British tourist who had entered Thailand last month and was suspected of being connected with the al-Qaeda terrorist group. However, according to the deputy chief of the Special Branch Police, the tourist -- a 30-year-old of Pakistani descent who had visited Krabi with several other tourists -- had not been found to be connected in any way with international terrorist groups or insurgents in Thailand's Deep South. The police had allowed the tourist, who was not on the watch list of transnational criminal suspects, to return to the United Kingdom after the questioning. The deputy Special Branch Police commander said his agency had not verified any al-Qaeda presence anywhere in Thailand, including the turbulent southernmost provinces. He also dismissed concerns regarding Muslim Cambodians who passed through the south enroute to Malaysia for employment. Pol. Maj-Gen. Trithot also denied he had recently alerted Pol. Lt-Gen. It was on the local radio news last night and it was the British gov't that said they had no knowledge of anyone being deported in relation to the bombings. THAIVISA GOING DOWN There are no "reporters" in Thai Visa, only messengers extracting news from Reuters, Bangkok Post, The Nation etc. Role of messengers is to relay information, not to create them. Thai Visa is a forum, NOT a news agency. Got it? Anyway, I've got used to the "news" in Thailand and would normally treat them as rumours until they are validated.
