Chinese have taken over from Russian visitors as the most numerous to come through the Thai immigration turnstiles at the moment. Nationally, Russian visitors are not even in the top 5 anymore, whilst in Phuket the arrival numbers have dropped off drastically, compared to the influx from December 2022 to February 2023.

Nationally, over the past week, the foreign arrivals were…

• Chinese – 95,581

• Malaysian – 73,810 (many of these are just day or weekend trips for ‘locals’ across the southern border)

• South Korean – 37,754

• Indian – 27,707

• Vietnamese – 25,717

In Phuket, during the month of July…

• Chinese – 74,766

• Russian – 35,521

• Australian – 24,761

• Indian – 17,224

• Hong Kong visitors – 13,817

Russians aren't coming through the immigration turnstiles because they've rooted themselves and aren't going to leave. The Chinese on the other hand mostly will go home.

It's gone from bad to worse. Good luck to Phuket.

I went down my local beach the other morning 7-30 am there was 5 Chinese tour buses parked up

The UK Guardian newspaper today reports a huge upturn in Russians buying 1 million+$ mansions; no explanation of how these draft-dodgers circumvented Thai property owning laws.

OT

but kinda relevant given different cultures proclivity...

do the Chinese smoke weed?

Not surprising as you live in Shandong.

The article doesn't state the numbers of departures, so your statement has no basis and as an attempt to humor is rather stale by now. Instead, try to remember that Dec-Feb (the basis for comparison in the article) is the infamous Russian winter, and that most arrivals are not from the European but from the Asian part of Russia where said winter really bites. July in Russia is relatively pleasant and they have no special reason to come - enough beaches of their liking along rivers and lakes. Russian overstayers and long-term...  I am sure there will be some - like for any other nationality.

Chinese are more abundant than Russians in Pattaya as well these days.

And they've made it much harder to dodge. Russia needs it's canon fodder.
