BANGKOK, Aug 30 (TNA) – The first cabinet meeting will discuss a reduction in oil prices, said prime minister Srettha Thavisin after he held talks with the United Thai Nation Party on Wednesday.

Srettha met the outgoing energy minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow and the UTN’s economic team. They had a productive discussion on several issues, with a focus on the steps in the process to reduce electricity and diesel fuel prices.

Good luck with that.

Government subsidies merely distort the market (both supply & demand) and 'benefit' (in the short term) the rich as well as the poor. They also distort or kill the evolution to alternative means of transport (eg in Thailand's case, decent railways both inter- and intra-city).

They may market it it as a subsidy but in reality it is just a reduction of tax, for the diesel.

Something about Srettha that I dislike. I get the feeling that he might be totally corrupt and might leave Thailand even worse off than it was under Prayut.

So far he looks to me like a reasonable guy. Certainly more brain power & energy than the dinosaur Uncles!

Can't blame him entirely for the complicated & long-drawn-out appointment processes ...

Feelings... Nothing more than feelings. Trying to forget my feelings of ... Suspicion.

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister has discussed energy price and economic issues with the United Thai Nation Party ahead of his meeting with other stakeholders on ways to lower energy prices in Thailand.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin today held talks with an economic team from the United Thai Nation Party (UNTP), led by Mr Supattanapong Punmeechaow who served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy in the previous administration.

The talk was focused on the making of government policies including the path towards reducing energy and fuel prices.

The PM said he would inform the general public at a later date whether his initiative to lower electricity prices can commence immediately after the first Cabinet meeting, saying he needed to assess all procedures involved.

Mr. Supattanapong Punmeechaow from the United Thai Nation Party was previously expected to continue serving his role as the Minister of Energy in the new Cabinet, pending an official announcement.

Mr Supattanapong revealed after the discussion with the Prime Minister that the meeting was more of an exchange of thoughts between both sides.

Wouldn't they just revive the plan they had for when oil was over $100 a barrel?
