On September 4, 2023, Bangkok authorities reported the apprehension of Mr. John (alias), a 41-year-old American.

He was sought after causing an incident in Phuket, where he purportedly wreaked havoc and inflicted damage to a local residence. Following this, the property owner lodged a complaint against him for the damages, reported Siam Rath.

Attempts by Phuket's investigative unit to locate Mr. John initially proved fruitless. They later secured an arrest warrant from the Phuket court.

Through their investigation, they learned that Mr. John had fled from Phuket and was residing in a condominium near Sukhumvit Soi 11 in the Wattana district of Bangkok.

The breakthrough came when the authorities discovered that Mr. John planned to visit the IT Square building in the Laksi district of Bangkok to extend his visa.

On arrival, officers identified him as he was about to submit his visa extension at the immigration counter.

Confirming his identity and ensuring he was the same individual wanted in Phuket, they informed him of the charges and his rights.

He was subsequently detained and handed over to the investigative team in Phuket for legal proceedings.

  • It is a criminal matter from the report he committed criminal property vandalism. Just another loser who gives Falang a bad reputation.  Hope they deport him.

  • He was going to immigration in Bangkok dressed like that?

  • Deportation is too mild for these suckers. Let him clean and restore the apartment, plus 120 hours of garbage picking in public parks.

It is both... it doesn't have to be one or the other.

Criminal damage is criminal and an arrest warrant means that he can be arrested!

I assume from your amazement that you don't visit Immigration, the modes of dress are often weird and wonderful, which is why Immigration Jomtien at one time issued a dress code, don't know if it's still valid. Will admit that I tend to wear more formal attire (long pants/trousers and polo shirt) when I visit Immigration.

They have done the same at Phuket and I saw that being enforced when a sruffy falang came into the building, because he was told to leave after the dress code poster was pointed out to him!

It's time for American bashing.

..fancy not shaving your legs!

Very clever to arrest him before he submitted his extension application. Guarantees an overstay charge as a minimum.

On the bright side, it will be impossible to blame retirement extensions for this one.

Good idea!  Then they can charge him for working without a workpermit.

This suggests that immigration was immediately aware of his outstanding arrest warrant as soon as he contacted immigration. Only pointing this out because I don't think this level of data base coordination has always been the case.

The American guy needs some lessons in body language etiquette when under arrest. His hand on his drink when charges are being explained to him as well as his hands in his pockets while being photographed do not convey respect, contrition, or an appreciation of the charges he is facing.

Yep it's their turn, Brit bashing was yesterday.....

When you’re born or raised in America, you’re encouraged to be or do ANYTHING you want anywhere you want. Poor guy was probably just exercising his “rights” as an American to wreak havoc and cause damage.

Hopefully visa extension denied , fined big time, held until paid and then deported

He is American, but could be  British or even French... About time they remove the visa exempt admissions and require a criminal & employment record before issuing visas.

Myself being British, I would think that no British chap would be seen dead in those shorts, and the leg art does point towards the USA....????

Every immigration office has a dress code, not just Jomtien, whether people follow it or not is another matter. Like you I always wear long trousers and a shirt with a collar

Good for you. I do the same.

Unlike some on these forums, I liken dressing down for an immigration visit to poking snakes with a stick. It's really not worth the risk.

Bad timing... cause havoc before the ext'n application...

[nice shorts]

That was a fine bit of detecting to catch him like that.
