White House hopes to secure nuclear cooperation deal with Riyadh as Chinese influence grows in Middle East

 

The Saudi crown prince has confirmed his country would seek to acquire a nuclear arsenal if Iran developed one, throwing fresh doubt on a possible US-Saudi nuclear cooperation deal currently under negotiation.

Joe Biden’s Democratic allies in the US Senate have warned his administration will face a tough battle for approval of a deal normalising relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia if it includes substantial nuclear cooperation with Riyadh, because of distrust of Saudi intentions.

 

In an interview on Wednesday, Mohammed bin Salman added weight to suspicions that an ostensibly civilian nuclear programme could be diverted to military purposes if Saudi Arabia felt under threat.

Questioned by Fox News about the prospect of an Iranian bomb, the crown prince said “we are concerned of any country getting a nuclear weapon”, adding that if Iran did successfully develop a weapon “we will have to get one”.

Prince Mohammed made a similar warning in 2018, and its repetition suggests military options are still a factor in the kingdom’s nuclear planning.

The Biden administration has focused a great deal of diplomatic effort into securing a Saudi-Israeli normalisation deal, which Prince Mohammed said was getting closer “every day”. Any such agreement would involve US incentives for Saudi participation.

Biden is now left to clean up Trump's failed ME Peace Plan between Israel and Saudi which Trump had hailed as the 'deal of the century'.

 

Nevertheless, the deal the Trump Crime family secured with MBS with a two billion dollar and LIV Golf franchise bribe was not insignificant.

 

Obviously, this deal would secure MBS with anything he wants from a successful Trump POTUS if Trump has not already supplied him with State secrets.

 

Seems the FBI is now hot on US politicians accepting bribes from Middle East countries irrespective of their colour.

Failed peace plan? The Abraham Accords was the first step to getting the Saudis to establish formal relations with the Israelis.  Both MBS and Netanyahu have recently said they are optimistic.  Of course, the Palestinian issue is and always always has been a stumbling block.

Iran is furious at what is going on and has warned against any agreement between the two countries.

'The Trump peace plan, officially titled "Peace to Prosperity: A Vision to Improve the Lives of the Palestinian and Israeli People", was a proposal by the Trump administration to resolve the Israeli–Palestinian conflict'.

 

Trump's ME Peace Plan goal was peace between Israel and Palestine, and it failed but it did enrich the Trump Crime family.

 

The Abraham Accords were not part of Trump's peace plan.

 

United Arab Emirates and Bahrain were never at war with Israel, so how could it be part of any peace plan?

What did Trump do at the same time? Moved the embassy to East Jerusalem. Really sincere in wanting peace. Not.

What a joke it was! The plan had been elaborated with Netanyahu, without the participation of the Palestinians. It was giving Israel all the land it wanted (in particular East-Jerusalem and the opulent Jordan Valley), and establishing a system of Bantustans for the Palestinians.
