Oct 4 (Reuters) - Around 4 million Americans received the updated COVID-19 shots in September, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), even as some people have found it difficult to book vaccination appointments or find the vaccines at no cost.

"The Biden-Harris Administration, through HHS, has been working directly with manufacturers and distributors to ensure that the vaccines are getting to pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, and other vaccination sites, including long-term care facilities as quickly as possible," a spokesperson for the department said in an emailed statement.

The updated shots from Pfizer (PFE.N) and BioNTech (22UAy.DE) or Moderna (MRNA.O) are single-target vaccines aimed at the XBB.1.5 Omicron subvariant of the coronavirus, which was dominant in the U.S. for much of this year but has since been overtaken by other variants as the virus evolves.

Another updated COVID shot, made by Novavax (NVAX.O), was authorized on Tuesday but is not yet available.

Rollout of the Pfizer and Moderna shots began in earnest after the U.S. Centers for the Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended them on Sept. 12. The rollout of last year's updated shots targeting two virus variants started about 10 days earlier, and by Sept. 21, around 4.4 million Americans had rolled up their sleeves for one of them.

U.S. public health officials have expressed hope that Americans will welcome the new vaccines as they would an annual flu shot. But demand for COVID vaccines has dropped sharply since 2021, when they first became available.

Around 56.5 million people, or 17% of the U.S. population, received last year's version of the vaccines.

Some interesting facts in that Reuters press-release:

#1 - The updated shots from Pfizer (PFE.N) and BioNTech (22UAy.DE) or Moderna (MRNA.O) are single-target vaccines aimed at the XBB.1.5 Omicron subvariant of the coronavirus, which was dominant in the U.S. for much of this year but has since been overtaken by other variants as the virus evolves.

#2 - ... by Sept. 21, around 4.4 million Americans had rolled up their sleeves for one of updated or new shots.  That's 1.3% of the US population.

#3 - Around 56.5 million people, or 17% of the U.S. population, received last year's version of the vaccines.

The situation in US re covid-vaccine uptake, seems to be similar as in Germany (and many other countries).

https://www.eugyppius.com/p/journalists-for-die-zeit-realise

Journalists for Die Zeit - Germany’s largest newsweekly - realise nobody cares about the Covid jabs anymore, then pen 2500-word wall of text angsting about German "vaccine exhaustion" and wondering how things can have come to this...

Illustrative anecdote from the article:

Dr. Lassen, we read, is a general practitioner in Leck, a small town in Nordfriesland. The poor man has been offering Covid vaccines for two weeks, but so far he’s only been able to jab 130 people. At the height of the mass vaccination campaign, he was jabbing at least that many every day. That’s how bad things have gotten for poor Dr. Lassen.

Jeff CHILDERS commenting on the current booster uptake in his daily C&C Newsletter:

Only 2% of Americans have taken the new-and-improved covid booster shots. Pfizer’s stock tanked on the news, briefly dropping below pre-pandemic prices.

Last year, 18% of eligible Americans took the boosters (for some reason). This year, the public health agencies all ran the same positive propaganda, and the enthusiasm is even lower.

Two percent is nothing. It’s probably down to just the public health crowd and medical fetishists now...

Maybe the Americans have turned a corner in their general health thinking. Have they educated themselves? Now that the covid phantom is out of the bag, do people now realise that 'all' vaxxes are meaningless, and can only do harm to their general health?

Two % is a step in the right direction. Nil % would be better; but! Soon perhaps. Will we now see the average American slimming down, due to less dependency on Big Pharma products?

"EG.5 made up 29.4% of cases at the end of September, more than any other SARS-CoV-2 virus strain at the time, followed by another XBB descendent called FL 1.51, which accounted for 13.7% of cases. “The XBB characteristics of the shot are genetically similar to EG.5,” Dr. Roberts says. “They're not identical, but they're pretty close. So, there's going to be protection with the updated vaccine.”"

https://abcnews.go.com/Health/36m-american-adults-received-updated-covid-vaccine-cdc/story?id=104874582

"An estimated 36 million adults in the United States have received the updated COVID-19 vaccine as of Monday, according to new data from the federal government.

Additionally, about 3.5 million children have also gotten the updated shot, according to the survey, which is a sample size of the U.S. population, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

This is roughly equal to the number of Americans who had received the bivalent booster -- which was targeted against different COVID variants -- by this time last year."

2023 US population ~334 million meaning 11.8% have so far gotten the latest booster version which was recently FDA approved in Sept/Oct 2023

~ So that means that 88,2 % of the US population did NOT opt for that latest booster shot. I can think of a couple reasons why...

I can think of one. Maybe these non-jabbed Americans cannot see a benefit of the booster.

Can't argue with those figures.

But i should point out that getting hurt by the vaxx, and expecting compensation, should know the bar is set quite high.

You can’t successfully argue with figures that are facts, but some certainly effort to perversely present facts in revisionist fashion for propagandist means. As sick as is the psychology that would motivate such sadistic behavior, as loyal are the allies of a virus – also known as anti-vaxxers – in their constant efforts to sway even lesser informed or those of even lesser intelligence into self-destructive decisions, they may do some damage but by the numbers have not won any battles and certainly not the war the rest of the world has waged against the anti-vaxxers’ low bar demon overlord SARS-CoV-2.

Fact is, the numbers of those damaged by vaccine, as sad as that is, pales to nearly invisibility in comparison to the damages caused by the unvaxxed (& unmasked) in terms of damage to themselves, damage to those around them, damage to the system that must tend to them as they get sick, damage to the societies & their purses that must support those systems even for those who refused a simple shot in the arm.

https://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/issue-brief/unvaccinated-covid-patients-cost-the-u-s-health-system-billions-of-dollars/

"there were a total of 690,000 vaccine-preventable COVID-19 hospitalizations form June through November 2021, a period that overlaps with the delta variant surge.  It estimates that the preventable costs of treating these patients iat $13.8 billion during the six-month period. (bolding mine)"

So, okay, let's talk compensation. When can we expect your check?

I don't agree with you TC. The health system in the west, is basically to make money, and not to keep people healthy.

My opinion of course. If you get sick; go see a medical professional.

More than 1,000 Americans have been dying from COVID every week since late August until the latest complete weekly reports shown below in BLUE, according to the CDC's tally.

A good reminder that Americans who have access to the latest COVID vaccines, and especially the most vulnerable being older people and those with chronic health issues, ought to get vaccinated and greatly reduce their risks of serious COVID health issues.

Screenshot_2.jpg.806a04e9278cd862f7bec9f21a211e07.jpg

"Provisional data are non-final counts of deaths based on the flow of mortality data in NVSS. Deaths include those with COVID-19, coded to ICD–10 code U07.1, as an underlying or contributing cause of death on the death certificate. Death data are displayed by date of death (event)."

"Data during recent periods are incomplete because of the lag in time between when a death occurs and when a death certificate is completed, submitted to NCHS, and processed for reporting. This delay can range from 1 week to 8 weeks or more, depending on the jurisdiction. The most recent 3 weeks of mortality counts are shaded grey and mortality rates shown as dotted lines because NVSS reporting is <95% during this period."

From the U.S. CDC:

COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake and CDC’s Commitment to Vaccine Equity

November 22, 2023, 9:00 AM EDT

"COVID-19 is still an important cause of hospitalization and death, especially for older adults and people with certain underlying medical conditions. COVID-19 vaccines don’t prevent every infection – that’s true of lots of vaccines – but they can reduce illness severity in people who get vaccinated but still get sick, helping to save lives, reduce hospitalizations, and prevent trips to the doctor."

https://www.cdc.gov/respiratory-viruses/whats-new/vaccine-equity.html

U.S. Vaccination Rate Estimates for New Monovalent COVID Vaccines:

"As of November 18, 2023, 15.7% (95% Confidence Interval: 14.9%-16.5%) of adults reported having received an updated 2023-24 COVID-19 vaccine since September 14, 2023."

"Vaccination coverage increased by age and was highest among adults 75 years and older [34.2%, (30.4%-38.1%)]."

"As of November 18, 2023, 6.3% (95% Confidence Interval: 5.3%-7.4%) of children were reported to be up to date with the 2023-24 COVID-19 vaccine."

https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/imz-managers/coverage/covidvaxview/interactive/vaccination-dashboard.html

On the following website, the CDC also has charts that break down the vaccination rates by varying groups and geographies, including:

--a 33.4% vaccination rate for all adults age 65 and older.

--a 17% rate for adults age 50 to 64

--a 10.9% rate for adults age 40 to 49

--a 10.8% rate for adults age 30 to 39, and

--a 4.5% rate for adults age 18 to 29

I simply do not agree with you here.

The; '''most vulnerable being older people and those with chronic health issues'', are IMO, the very ones that should not be taking these vaxxes.

From the above CDC website, as of mid-Nov., also has the new monovalent COVID vaccination rates by state/district. From my perusing the list, the following appear to be the top and bottom vaccination rate states among all adults:

TOP:

Vermont -- 33.2%

Dist of Columbia -- 30.1%

Minnesota -- 26.8%

Massachusetts -- 26.7%

Colorado -- 23.1%

BOTTOM:

Mississippi - 5.4%

Louisiana -- 8.2%

Florida -- 8.3%

Alabama -- 10%

West Virginia -- 10.4%

Yet the actual data upon which correct evaluations rely (in disagreement with your bizarro-world opinion) advises by the very numbers that elders ought--in direct opposition to what you've said-- vax themselves to increase their odds of surviving infection of an easily spread airborne virus.

Publicly wrongly advising elders to not reduce their risk of death from CoV-2, basing your opinion on magical thinking of religious belief or on your politics or by your sadism, etc,, based on anything but scientifically derived data is perverted in that it does not align with empirically known reality.
