Israelis in Thailand Determined to Get Home

As the world watches the war in Gaza unfold, many Israelis in Thailand say they are desperate to get home to assist their country in its battle against Hamas. Israeli nationals are cutting short their Southeast Asia trips so they can aid their country’s war effort.

Thailand is a popular place for Israelis with more than 159,000 visiting from January to September of this year, according to Thai government data.

Located in old Bangkok, a couple of streets away from the traveler-centric Khao San Road, Chabad House is where many Israeli visitors congregate while touring the Thai capital. The Jewish community house has been a mainstay in the city for nearly three decades.

Despite the tight security, it normally has a welcoming atmosphere. Since the Hamas attacks on Israel, however, the mood has soured.

Rabbi Nechemia Wilhelm, the director of Chabad House, says the Hamas attacks have prompted many Israelis to come and seek community help.

"Soon as everybody heard about [the] disaster in Israel, everybody came to get together to see how they can get back home, because a lot of them are young soldiers released from the army. They want to go back and protect our brothers and sisters," he told VOA.

Or blind nationalism. Easy to be eager to run back home to fight when you have an overwhelming force, opposing a strip of rubble with a couple of US battle fleets parked there as overwatch. I wonder how many would be so quick if they were Russian and facing a meat grinder.

You accuse them at the same time of both blind nationalism and cowardice.  Going into Gaza urban combat takes far more courage than you'll ever have.  Especially as we know what happens to a Jew who is captured by jihadis.

Your anti-Israel sentiments aside, I do appreciate, however, that you put the onus of danger on Russians, when it comes to the risk of participating in their war on Ukraine.

Ukraine was supposed to take Russia three days to defeat and occupy. Didn't work out that way for some reason. Some people (not referring to cited poster above, here) might need to realize that thinking World War III is possible is wrong. It has already started, with war fronts breaking out in Ukraine, Israel, and soon Taiwan. The Ukrainian front is being attacked by the Russian dictator, Israel by the mullah-backed stone age Hamas, and Taiwan in the sights of the Chinese dictator, all while the Turkish dictator looking for his opportunity to jump in along with his three allies.

Oh no, another loss of income for Thailand

Repatriate asap.......for free.

Yep, perfect time for Xi to flex his ample weight. Putin over there to talk tactics again and wouldn’t be a stretch that he was in cahoots with Iran to stoke the Israel thing. snafu!

I guess all the guesthouses can take down the NO ISRAELIS signs in Thailand and India now.

There are no such sign in all guesthouses, of course. Not in most, not even in many.

Wrong thread. Sorry.
