I understand that to hold the majority (51%+) of a company in Thailand and to sponsor a work permit, you need to have at least 2M THB of capital invested in the company.

What about however if you already have an annual visa in Thailand based on marriage and you would like to register a company, could my wife hold 51% and I would hold 49%? Could that company sponsor a work permit for me without 2M capital invested in the company or would that still be needed? I don't plan on basing my visa on the work permit, but I would prefer to have one in addition to my visa based on marriage to apply for certain bank accounts (cheques/online banking) and some other things that require a work permit. I'd then also combine it with opening a business for my wife.

From what I remember of posts by Sunbelt, in your situation the company needs only one million registered capital and – depending on what you write into the articles of association – only a fraction of this needs to be paid up, for example only 25%.

Right. Now I remember again reading that somewhere a while back, that you need 1M instead of 2M if you're married. Thanks!

You'll need 5 more shareholding promoters to set up the company. That could be some members of your wife's family that each hold e.g. one share of 100 Baht.

One more thing: You'll need to get more specific on your job description, than in your OP, before you attempt to fill out the WP-application (not to mention, that it would be a good idea to work out the details of what the company should be doing, before setting it up ).
