The adjustments to the digital wallet scheme, as proposed by an ad hoc sub-committee, are an indication that the government is encountering problems in securing the estimated Bt560 billion needed to fund it, Move Forward deputy leader Sirikanya Tansakul said today (Thursday).

 

Even if the scheme is downsized to reach only those who are in need of the benefit, using means testing, the government will still need about Bt430 billion to fund the scheme for 43-49 million beneficiaries, instead of about 55 million as originally planned.

 

Again, even if the funding needed is cut to 430 billion baht, she said that there won’t be enough money in the national budget for the 2024 fiscal year, which means that the cost will have to be spread across four fiscal years, at about 100 billion baht a year.

The citizens won't be happy if they don't get their free money that was promised it will be the death of their political party if they don't get it serves themselves right

If only there was someway they could have known all of this before they made it an election promise......so unfair.

They didn't want to win the election to benefit Thai people, they wanted to win to bring Thaksin home. This is why despite being a convicted prisoner, he's currently in his own suite in a hospital, rather than sitting inside a prison.

Hope so. The most idiotic and illegal scheme ever perpetrated in LOS (the Land of Schemes). Apparently Srettha has shares in the company that will implement the scheme and collect commissions on the sales made.

Since when has not having money stopped governments from spending more?  Is there any government that actually runs a balanced budget?

However, the Gov,t will find the Money, even if it Bankrupts the Country

Massive " Face " has to be preserved at all costs

IMO The Gov,t is trying to formulate a plan of Damage Limitation on the 10 K Digital Wallet Plan and all the other Vote Buying schemes

Somebody forgot to tell them that all the other Vote buying schemes they are going to introduce, are also going to cost the Country very  heavily in tandem with the Wallet Scheme

Plenty of talk in Northern Villages about the Party being dead in the water at the next election anyway.   They want Move Forward in power and Thaksin well or sick isn't going to work with the Public no matter how hard he tries.  His day is past and the People know it.

 North is not a PTP stronghold except Uthai Thani. Fights are between PPRP, BJT and maybe Dem in Tak in next election.
