Hi all, can anyone recommend a place, based on experience or second hand knowledge, with a good Orthopedic doctor? My knee has been terrible since dislocating it 4 times in 5 years (last time 4 years ago). I have persisted with the pain after running and exercise for too long and its time to get it checked out properly. With knee problems though, the diagnosis is not always easy, so seeing an Ortho or knee-specialist is important. Any advice welcome, thanks very much.

There is a doctor that has been highly and repeatedly recommended for orthopedic work. Search the CM forum and you will find the details, the guys who have bike accidents swear by him.

A knee-specialist is certainly different than a general Orthopedic surgen. There must be sports Doctors here that could recommend somebody?

This post/thread is extremely timely for me too - or rather me on behalf of my girl friend. She has a persistent problem in a knee and I'd like her looked at. The cause of the problem in her case however can have nothing to do with too much running or exercise.

Failing a specific recommendation, would a big hospital like the Maharaj have a good specialist whom she could access via the paying floor (I forget which one - 13th/14th?)

I have added my post here in case a helpful responder would otherwize have sent info in a pm to the op.

I, too, have knee problems and am ready to start looking for a proper sports injury orthopedic surgeon. :o Smashed my kneecap into a zillion pieces years ago and it's never been the same. Everyone I've spoken to about it has had only one recommendation - go to Bangkok.

I tend to agree with chuchok that a knee specialist and orthopedic doctor are not one and the same. My knee doctor at home, after seeing more orthopedic doctors than I have fingers to count, was the team doctor for the women's olympic downhill ski team. Sports injury specialists are the ones who will know about knees.

Good luck.

Have you try the orthopedic near the Rachadamnorn-Chaban intersection, heading to the three kings next to the car dealer? They are one of the best in town. It is a small clinic but very professional.

Very helpful for my old mom. I would say.

Good luck.

Go to Dr Suthee. Very pleasant chap. Clinic not far from opposite Wat Jed Yot on the Superhighway, behindish a tree hanging out over the road.

American certified. I was impressed by the fact he was very interested to hear about the back problem I merely mentioned even though I told him it was no concern and I was there for a shoulder. This was at 8pm after a long day. He spent quite some time to make sure a problem he perceived as potentially dangerous was OK for now. Then analysed a torn tendon that was getting a squeeze in between two bones, explained it well, injected cortisone into the joint, prescriptions. Told me 80% chance he could get me better in 6 weeks. Then straight into the physio next room for first assessment and ultrasound instantly.

Downside? Always busy so you'll wait, take a book.

Open four times a week I believe sorry not sure when look on the shutter..

Check out the thread in Chiangmai forum titled "Full Health Checkup". Lots of info for you regarding your knee.

Yep, Dr Suthee is good.Nothing like a knee specialist though. He's a general orthopaedic surgeon.

Do you have a specific name of a knee specialist at the hospital, or elsewhere?

Dr. Panya at Bumrungrad in BKK. GREAT Dr. Had my knee replaced 4 years ago and it's been perfect ever since. Also have three friends with similar knee and or shoulder problems and again he did a fantastic job.

If you are in Chiang Mai the guys riding motor bikes and crashing, say there is an excellent local Dr. Go to www.gt-rider.com and request the info.

Cheers
