Seven Pathum Thani provincial police officers have been transferred to inactive posts at the provincial police command, pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations that they raped a drug suspect and demanded 300,000 baht in bribes from her in exchange for dropping drug dealing charges.

 

Pol Lt-Gen Jirasan Kaewsang-ek, commissioner of the Region 1 Provincial Police Bureau, said today that the allegations against the seven officers, attached to Pratunam Chulalongkorn police station, are serious, affecting the image of the police and public safety.

 

He said that police have already questioned the female, who claims that the alleged rape and bribe demand took place on November 22nd and 23rd, while she was in police custody in Pathum Thani province.

Rape by police of true should be an extremely harsh penalty.

What image is that... the one they say or the one we all see and understand?

Jeeeezus , more inactive police , haven't we got enough inactive police as it is ?

I always believe that the Police officer in charge of the station where incidents like this happen, should also be moved to an inactive post and demoted, for not managing his staff correctly, and thus allowing them.

If this happened, then I am sure proper "management" at the stations would provide much more efficiency.

How does police and public safety get into the same sentence?  In Thailand the two are diametrically opposed.  'Serve and Protect' RTP's laughable motto, copied no doubt from some TV police show.

It means they are removed from receiving a share of the money 'donated' by the public in gratitude for not being prosecuted.
