webfact Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 On December 17, 2022, the Department of Airports (DoA) unveiled six measures to prepare for the influx of travelers during the upcoming New Year celebrations, expecting over 150,000 people daily. Major General Chonrach Rimphadee, Deputy Director-General of the DoA, highlighted the readiness to accommodate both Thai and international travelers, especially at Suvarnabhumi Airport, where daily arrivals are projected to exceed 150,000, up from the previous 120,000, due to the government's tourism promotion policies and free visa initiatives, reported Siam Rath. To manage the potential passenger congestion, Major General Chonrach emphasized the need for strategic planning, given the current expansion of flights and increased travel. The six key measures include: 1. Reinforcing personnel with additional shifts to address staffing shortages, supported by personnel from various checkpoints nationwide. 2. Utilizing a crowd balancing approach for passengers entering Suvarnabhumi's three zones to ensure a smooth flow and expedited passport checks. 3. Prioritizing passengers with special needs, such as those with young children or elderly individuals, for convenient security checks. 4. Streamlining the fingerprint scanning process for Thai passengers, reducing the time spent in immigration queues. 5. Coordinating with airlines to identify and handle potentially risky passengers before boarding. 6. Enhancing the Automatic Passport Control channels for departing international travelers, supporting over 70 countries, to improve processing efficiency.
