Aircon CB making a sizzling sound.

Featured Replies

Had a power cut last night just after I went to bed. Switched the aircon CB off just in case of a spike or similar when the power comes back on. When the power came back I switched the aircon CB on and could hear a sizzling sound. Decided it was best to leave it off and check things in the morning. Took the CB out this morning in order to show the shop what I wanted (not helped by the contractor leaving no spare wire length) and got a new one. Decided to take the old one apart just out of interest. Couldn't believe the amount of crud in it. Pic of CB and the extra crud that fell in the sink as it came apart.

Wow you found dust in a CB of a AC that runs all the time.

Is that actually the remains of tiny, tiny ants?

These chaps really like electric fields and can crud up light switches, breakers, pump pressure switches and the like.

Samsung Air?

The CB has nothing to do with the aircon unit other than being a switch in the power supply to it. The unit happens to be a Mitsubishi, the CB is made by Panasonic.

The smaller bits in the sink are gritty, possible that ants have carried them into it. Took it apart a little bit more and you can see where the left hand contacts have been arcing.
