We have decided to move back to the Caribbean to be closer to family and as my hubby works away for up to two or sometimes three months at a time, I am alone with the kids a lot.

Our house is on the market, we are trying to buy one back home but the fly in the ointment is our dogs, who we love dearly. Taking them with us is an option but it will mean a very expensive, six month quarantine in the UK, before we can have them flown to Barbados. It seems to me that this will be a real hardship on the dogs.

They are both males and neutured. One is an approx 5 year old black Thai dog and the other is a 2.5 year old boxer. The boxer especially is like my baby. He is so gentle, lovely with the children and so endearing in that slobbery, silly looking boxer sort of way.

We may be in Thailand for up to a year or if our house sells quickly, just a few months. I am just putting some feelers out now to see if there is anyone who would be interested in adopting them. I would have to feel very comfortable that they were going to a good home where they would be really loved.

I will take some pics and then try to figure out how to post them here for anyone who may be interested but for the moment, I am just testing the waters.

Let me know. :o

A boxer? :o

Very tempting, but still no. Not fair to my other two dogs and my GSD male will never ever except him. The bastard :D

About one and a half years ago, there was a couple who had to go back home due to circumstances. Also they were thinking of rehoming their boxer, a female, as their circumstances were very difficult at that time. While I was at their house talking to them and the boxer wanted to go from her lap to mine, I noticed the split second the owner was holding on to her dog, as if she didn't want to let her go. This told me so much about their feelings towards their dog, that I asked them to reconsider and told them what I saw.

Anyway, to make a long story a bit shorter. The dog stayed with me for half a year. During this time the owners arranged the necessary papers for the rabies titer (after the test results dogs still need to stay in Thailand for another three months before they can travel to the EU!) a house, a job and the necessary money to send the dog home. Till today, they are so very happy they did not rehome their dog!

I can understand your concerns about the 6 months quarantine and the costs. But just recently some one I know is also considering to go back home, England, and is going to take their dogs with them. They have inquired about the different quarantine places in England and found one that's to their satisfaction. It seems a place where the staff is very nice with the animals and there are dog behaviorists who can help those dogs that show seperation anxiety or other behavior problems. I can contact these people for details if you like. Please, send me an PM if you do.

Another option to consider is to send the dogs to Holland for the six months period (if that's excepted as such, at least). I have dear friends who have a dog boarding and training kennel there. They are experts on dog behavior, health, training etc. Also here, if you are interested send me a PM and I can bring you into contact with them.

I also have had boxers in my kennel for considerable periods of time. And although I think that boxers are less suited for being in a kennel for long periods of time than some other dogs, they were doing quite fine as long as I spent proper time with them every day. And this is something that both abovementioned places will do as well.
