Following their debate yesterday, the House of Representatives passed seven air cleanliness bills in their first readings, by 443 votes with one abstention.

The seven bills were proposed by government and opposition parties and a civil society organisation.

A 39-member committee, comprised of both government and opposition MPs, was set up by the House to scrutinise all the seven bills, with the government-sponsored version to be used as the basis.

After the completion of the scrutiny process, the seven bills will be merged into one and then submitted to the House for the second and final readings.

So good to hear seven bills passed... And now go on with daily life.. because nothing will happen. Government has saved their face already by showing their good will, but in all previous year they have done totally zero to improve the air quality.. I see at least 4 times a day black smoke cars driving around just as an example.

and reduces the price of fuel...

Yes and particularly sponsor Diesel and make bulky heavy Diesel pickups cheaper than a midsize eco car.

Just continue with the the large army of huge sugar cane trucks (trailers) which throw big black smoke, make terrible noise. For some I am not sure: pre or post WWII?

Still allow a joke of a vehicle inspection. Many vehicles would be rejected after 5 min of visual inspection in strict countries.

And of course still do not sanction/penalize sugar cane burning. Might have been reduced but still.

(only one day with black snow this year).

Burning trash is a national custom. Some mornings I go out and the air is foggy and stinks from all the fires.

Didn't know PM2.5 particles could read.

Those tiny particles will be worried sick when they hear a bill has been passed

From the article, some fines for polluters and forming a committee to study the pollution problem.  Great, another committee.  Didn't see anything that would actually work towards reducing the pollution.  Kick that can down the road . . .

The government-sponsored bill seeks the creation of an air cleanliness policy committee, to be chaired by the prime minister, which will be tasked with drawing up a master plan for clean and safe air and setting out economic, financial and tax measures in the management of air quality.

Great, more hot-air, just what Thailand needs.

Why you are so negative? So destructive?

Give the government a chance for change.🙏

I am not negative I am realistic... What have previous Governments and RTP achieved? How many times a crackdown on black smoke cars? How many times prohibited burning ricefields?? and how is was the enforcement of it after 2 days??? Don't forget we have the same government with Pheu Thai as extra party and that is a party that has proven not to be trustworthy yet

Don't look back.

You cannot make corrections for the past....but you can change the present and the future.🙏

You can count on the thumbs of one hand all the beneficial changes made here in the last TEN years.  Surprised no one has mentioned the FIFTY year jail sentence for Lese-majeste handed out to an activist yesterday.

Air is particularly poisonous today. And where is the man in charge? Playing in the snow in Switzerland. But at least there's another committee on the horizon, even if you can't really see the horizon for all the pollution.
