Pheu Thai Party dismisses corruption concerns on 10,000-baht digital wallet scheme

The Pheu Thai Party dismissed a warning by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) concerning the government’s proposed 10,000-baht digital wallet scheme.

Anusorn Iamsa-ard, a Pheu Thai list-MP, maintained that the government is open to feedback from all quarters and that the NACC’s concerns are premature as the scheme has not been implemented yet.

“If the digital wallet scheme is delayed as a result of the NACC’s warnings, the agency must respond to questions from the people.”

The NACC had cautioned the government about potential corruption and legal issues tied to the scheme while stating that the economy is not in a crisis yet. The digital wallet scheme is a key policy of the Pheu Thai-led government to boost the economy, aiming to give 10,000 baht (US$278) to 50 million Thai citizens.

However, the scheme’s legality has been questioned as the government plans to seek a 500-billion-baht (US$13.9 billion) loan to fund it, contradicting the Pheu Thai’s election campaign promise of not resorting to loans, reported Bangkok Post.

potential corruption....

LOL, not "potential". More like "guaranteed"....

Of course they will deny and dismiss the possibility of any corruption. They just follow the statistics. How many admits corruption?

  • Popular Post

There is an easy solution. They should just publish all the details.

Who will get "money"?

How will this distributed?

Who and how will be checked that the money is received by the nominated receiver?

What will the administrative cost be? Who will control this?

What will happen with money in those accounts which was never used? Will it expire? Where will it go?

I am sure there are at least 100 more questions.

Did the politicians think about all this? If yes, then it should be easy to publish the answers.

And if they didn't think about it, or didn't write it down, or somehow they think they will make it up while they are doing it, then stop it right away!

It will never work.. plans of spending the money around 4km of your house is ridiculous, who will benefit mostly?? a 7/11 shop. Besides that they have o clue who is living where.. The blue family booklet is useless as people are registered but doesn't live at that address..Who will get the money they have no clue either, because almost all Thai people have never filled in a taxform, so they don't know what people do, earn or save..Reasons enough for corruption and fraud.. First make a national register system where everybody has register, and fill in a tax form and after that they can maybe get the 10k .. but better is to cancel the handout..

Because who will check? what about people who are in prison or hospital? or disabled, serious ill or maybe too old ? what about the money that will or can not be claimed? It is a mess already without doing anything

This corrupt "scheme of the Pheu Thai-led government to boost the economy" ??? 😆

The people, who need it, will not buy or spend more money than before. The (maybe) only positive effect would be, that they buy now the products they needed before with this digital wallet: food, clothing etc. By this way they would reduce their personal debts (if at all?).

@OneMoreFarang and @ikke1959 already showed us good reasons why it's nearly not feasible.  I.e. a giant bureaucratic job with high costs and a very low effect on spending MORE  MONEY .... and a surging corruption danger.

Therefore, what will be the effect for the "ailing economy" ??

Some might disagree with that.

Of course, Yingluck's rice-pledging scam scheme was pure as the driven snow, even if it did come close to bankrupting the country. The fact that so many of the family's members, friends and allies who owned rice mills and storage warehouses were raking it in at the time was probably just down to lucky wins on the lottery. And perish the very thought that her angelic brother, stuck abroad in exile at the time,  might have been clandestinely directing the whole rice-pledging circus. Why, that would be as ridiculous as suggesting that a convicted criminal, who is anyway supposed to be locked away securely in a police hospital, is telling people who the next Prime Minister should be!

If you missed it, lol...

The Government  + Money + a populist policy ,even a blind man

would  see there's going to be some corruption happening ,they

just cannot help themselves....

regards worgeordie

The whole plan just seems like opening the door for more corruption. I remember when they wanted to tax people coming in so that it would pay for people that didn’t have insurance for the virus  how did that end up or all the fake virus vaccine they bought from China after it was proven to be any effective not lasting anytime relatively may be a month or two but yet they kept on ordering million dollars of that I wonder who got that brown envelope TIT
