SCB and KogoPAY introduce cross-border QR code payments for British and European tourists

Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) and mobile payment startup and digital wallet provider KogoPAY recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to offer QR code payment and ATM withdrawal services for the convenience of British and European tourists visiting Thailand.

The partnership will serve as a payment option that is convenient, quick, and secure, allowing these visitors to seamlessly use the KogoPAY mobile wallet to make QR code payments at merchants accepting Thai QR code payments nationwide.

Mr. Thanawatn Kittisuwan, First Executive Vice President and Head of Digital Juristic & Payment at Siam Commercial Bank said, "In response to the tourism sector’s constant rebound since 2023, SCB is focusing on increasing our ability to respond to the spending behavior of tourists who prefer making digital payments. This trend is in line with our statistics from 2023, which show growth in the number of QR payment transactions leaping over 60% compared to 2022.

As these figures continue to rise, we aim to simultaneously promote a cashless society and make life more convenient for foreign tourists.

Will you be giving free phones to everyone? Help and free network services to the poor, help on usage to the handicapped and courses on how to avoid being scammed?

If no - forget cashless.

Cashless is stupidity by the rich.

I had never heard of KogoPay and wonder who else had.

I was also interested in what the linkage was between SCB and a business supporting UK and European customers.........

For anybody likewise interested -

What a shambles their app is. Went through the verification process, identity confirmed, tried to use it and need to confirm my identity and address again. Think I'll give it a miss.

A London startup with offices in Bangkok and Vilnius. Sounds like just the sort of outfit to let access your bank accounts.

Cashles society = central bank digital currency and should scare everyone, the implications are immense as once fully digital

"the powers that be"

have full controll over a "citizen's"  (slave) life.

Digital "money" is just tokens given to you by a bank. Numbers on a screen. These tokens can be deducted at source at negative interest rate, or given a time limit to spend. Or linked to your social credit score.

It's basically slavery and the antithesis of personal wealth or financial freedom. Shove it.

WTF is KogoPAY?

Got it; some dodgy app from Lithuania... Next they will ask all tourists to use Chinese and Russian payment apps. LOL

Go CBDC, Go Slave/Satan coin. Shove it indeed. Lose your financial privacy, lose your freedom, simple as that. Use cash, send a message. Many are sleep walking into a QR code dystopian nightmare, all in the name of 'convenience'.

I don't trust credit cards over here I always make sure I have enough cash in my pocket in case there is a problem. So I will not trust this app

till it is proven to work for a while..Also I wonder how much you will get hammered on the exchange rate.

Well after 2 attempts customer service managed to stop the 'verify account' requests so I attempted a small transfer and lo and behold I received an error message saying there was a problem with my account. Customer service sorted that out after an email so I had one more go at a small transfer.....'Please verify your account'....what a crock of <deleted>e. Avoid.
