The escalating issue of PM2.5 pollution in Thailand has led the government to encourage the public to utilise public transportation, particularly in the most polluted areas. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has called for the public’s cooperation in the battle against the country’s increasing air pollution, which has seen a significant rise in recent days.

 

“We must work on improving the situation instead of just talking about it,” PM Srettha stated, emphasising the need for proactive action over-relying on favourable weather conditions to naturally dissipate the pollution.

 

These remarks came following a briefing on the national PM2.5 dust pollution situation, held at the Pollution Control Department (PCD). Provincial governors have received instructions to prevent open waste burning within their provinces, and related departments have been tasked to liaise with neighbouring countries to curb the same.

To foster long-term air quality improvements around the capital, the government is contemplating introducing incentives for motorists to switch to electric vehicles, along with plans to relocate the bustling Klong Toey port outside the city.

The use of public transportation is a good thing... BUT that is not the problem.. STOP THE BURNING.

Old and very old cars out of the city, Busses and taxis should be electric ones replace the old ones and please not a crackdown but a very high fine for blacksmoke cars all over the country. Today it was announced that burning rubbish and leaves was forbidden, but in the morning when we walk around there are every day surely 3/4 spots were people are burning. What is the purpose of talking but no enforcements??Problems never be  really solved but return everytime and get worse and worse

So stop talking about talking about it and do something.

Another regurgitated story from a week or more ago.

The safest place out of the smog is in your car, not walking to a bus stop and waiting for a bus, and you'd probably need to do this twice+ to reach your destination.

Has the PM even ever caught public transport to go to work.

Add cars to the metro trains. They are so over-crowded, even at non-rush hour times.
